Sea Days on the Veendam

I've been considering a cruise on the Veendam which includes more sea days than I'm used to and I'm concerned about going a little stir crazy. I know the Veendam is a smaller ship with fewer bells and whistles, and that's actually fine. I'm usually pretty good about keeping myself busy or occupied, but I can only spend so much time reading or hanging out in the gym. Can you give me some ideas of what to expect, then I can hopefully decide if it will be right for me?  I really love the itinerary and I'd like to make it work.

What interests you and what is the itinerary?

 

Some itineraries (ie. Hawaii) offer extra activities that the standard cruises do not.

 

  Some of the offerings will be Trivia, Bingo, some slot/Texas hold em contests in the Casino,   There should be some lecturers on board if it’s a longer cruise.

 

There will be the normal wine tastings, Sip and Savours daily etc,

Hi kazu (New Brunswick is on my list of places to visit). It's a trans-Atlantic. I've always wanted to try a TA. As far as interests, they're diverse. I enjoy lectures, trivia, exercise (in the gym or just walking the promenade), reading, and although I'm not much of a wine drinker, I like learning about it. Maybe I'm wondering what kind of unexpected things there might be.

Agree with kazu.   Probably more activities will be planned based on consecutive sea days...…

I was wondering what I’d do on my first Trans-Atlantic as well.  There were a couple of lectures each day along with multiple trivia competitions and the usual entertainment.  I found I really enjoyed sea days and almost prefer them.  Enjoy your cruise!

We prefer lots of uninterrupted sea days as there is something super relaxing about being bone idle!  We like the Windstar crossings for two weeks  that do not stop and the Hawaii loops that are five days out and five days back.  Sea days sandwiched in between port days might be a good test to see if this is fro you.

On a Transatlantic (I’ve done a few 😉 ) you should have some good lecturers, talks.

 

There will also be more chances for Cellar Master dinner and lots of Trivia.  There will probably be a Wines around the World along with the standard wine tastings.

 

You’ll find that you go into what I call “cruise mode” and adapt and enjoy the sea days, I suspect.

 

If you join your roll call, you might find that they have some activities planned (voluntary of course and only if they are of interest to you) as well besides the normal meet and greet.  You’ll also meet potential Trivia team mates.

Thank you all for the reassuring and encouraging replies. I usually only travel for 7-10 days at a time, so two weeks seems long. I figure I'll either be anxious to get home, or after a week or so I'll get into a rhythm and really enjoy it.
