San Francisco Embarkation Time

We are sailing on the Grand from San Francisco next month. The line says embarkation starts at 1:00, and the time for our deck is 2:30.  These are both later than any other cruise I have been on. The ship sails at 4:00. Usually we get on board in time for lunch. Does anyone have any info on when we can actually embark?

It is a suggestion.

We arrive around 10:30 and embarkation usually starts by Noon.

Yes I always arrive 10:30-11 am and get right in. Boarding has started some where around 11-30 or 12 noon.

We too have found that getting there at 10:30 works for us. We didn't arrive until 11:30 last cruise and we boarded right away.

I never follow the suggested email times. I like to get there early in the morning as well around 10:30 11:00. It's usually a very nice smooth check-in system.

What is your embarkation date?  You write above as 'this month'.

For our May 2019 cruise, we arrived at the port at 11 am and was on board by 11:30.  Very little lines.  Longest wait was at the alcohol table paying corkage fees.

I think I said next month. August 14 is our cruise date.

The one good thing about following the times on the letter is that you won't have to wait at all!

We arrive earlier than suggested.  How much earlier is based on when the hotel boots us out.  My recollection of the last trip out of San Francisco is we arrived around 11:00 AM to the good sized line.  We were on board in plenty of time for lunch in the MDR. The wait staff took our carry bags and stored them in an out of the way place. The cabin was not ready when we arrived on board  but the ship announced that the cabins were available as we ate.
