World Club Internet on B2B Itinerary

Sorry to ask... I have searched for Internet and World Club Benefits in different ways, with no luck...

I am a lowly Gold, but do use some of the internet package offered as a perk when onboard... Although, not all of it, I enjoy being "cut off" for a while.

My question is... On a Back to Back itinerary, is it 1 complimentary plan? Or 2 ? One "voyage", or do the systems onboard treat it as two?

Ta muchly.

This depends upon whether you booked the back to back as one voyage, with one res number. If so, then you'd get one internet package. If it's 2 separate bookings (meaning you'd probably have to change cabins) then you'd get two.

On our last transatlantics we met people who were on for the entire 23 days - eastbound from New York, Nine days from Soton to Hamburg, Zeebrugge, St Peters Port, Hamburg and back to Soton, and the westbound back to New York. It was booked under a single voyage number and they got one allotment of internet time for the entire voyage.

Yes you will get 2 lots of Internet.

We done the round trip from England to the Caribbean and back and had 3 each .

On our December 2017 BTB crossings (booked as one voyage) from NY, our internet was reset at Southampton.   It has also been reset at the beginning of each QM2 WC segment that we have been on.

This is also what I found from personal experience,  not word of mouth as others have said.

For the purposes of CWC benefits, (internet, CWC parties and wine tasting) it matters not whether the B2B is booked as one voyage or two; you will get the benefits in both directions. However, the manner in which the trip was booked (one or two etc) will solely determine the number of voyage(s) credited and used to climb the tier levels. So, a 14 night B2B booked as one voyage will be treated as 14 nights and 1 voyage credit, whilst a 14 night B2B booked as two separate trips will be treated as 14 nights and 2 voyage credits.

On my most recent B2B in November 2018 (booked under one reference), the remaining minutes upon reaching New York were transferred for use on the return leg. When those minutes were used up I purchased a second package (which was automatically refunded). What you cannot do is utilise the return leg’s allocation on the outbound.

We didn't do one this summer, but in 2017 and 2018, we received two allotments of internet time for our B2B crossings each year. We booked both from the US as single 16 and 14 night voyages. I'm not aware of the policy having changed since then.

(As mentioned above, for World Club level trip calculations, each voyage counted as only one trip because they were booked that way)

Cunard World Club Levels are also based on the number of cruise nights.

Gold is 2 completed sailings or 20-69 cruise nights.

Platinum is 7 to 14 completed sailings OR 70-149 cruise nights.

Diamond is 15 or more completed sailings OR 150 or more cruise nights .

Internet allowance for CWC on  a b2b Transatlantic crossing has always been 2 amounts removed from your account, one for each crossing ( when purchased)  irrespective of having one booking number or two for the back to back crossing..   Best to check with the Connexions person on board.

Can I access the internet on board?

All of our ships are Wi-Fi enabled so you can access the internet on your own devices or via our terminals in the library or ConneXions. Satellite internet packages are available to purchase pre cruise or once on board.

You can also use your roaming partner - when near shore - or the Telenor network - when at sea. Charges for these connections are set by your network service provider and will be added to your mobile bill rather than your on board account. Please contact your normal service provider for data allowance and costs.

Satellite internet packages

The following Internet packages are available to purchase on all Cunard Cruises:

Duration

Package Price

$/Per Minute

30 Minutes

 $    15.00

$   0.50

120 Minutes

 $  330.00

$   0.17

Head to the Library or ConneXions on board to confirm your satellite internet package and redeem your credit – find out more in our Gift Catalogue.  Once you have booked your holiday, visit Voyage Personaliser to find out how to purchase internet credit.

Once on board, your internet credit can be used to purchase a satellite internet package. You can also buy internet packages at any time during your cruise. To do this, open a browser on your device, log on to the ship’s WiFi and follow the instructions. Alternatively, pop along to the Library or ConneXions; a good option if you need a little help.

You can use your satellite internet package on any device, but not simultaneously on multiple devices. It is not possible to wire your device into an internet connection on board.

If you are on a back to back (two or more consecutive) cruise(s) please note that the satellite internet service may be unavailable during turnaround days when the ship changes from one cruise to the next.

Connection speed

While we strive to provide the best possible internet service for our guests, it should be noted that the “at sea” performance does not match “at home” expectations and the service will be slower than terrestrial connectivity.

We are unable to provide a guaranteed speed due to a number of factors that impact on performance. These include:

o Concurrency level (number of users utilising the system)
o Latency
o Geographical location
o Physical blockage
o Weather (both in the vicinity of the ship and at the terrestrial landing station)
o Satellite congestion
o Territorial bandwidth restrictions
o Onboard WiFi infrastructure variations

Access to email

You are able to access your own personal email account by using the internet facilities as detailed above.  If you do not have an email account, our Guest Computer Services Manager will be happy to help you set one up using the provider of your choice.

Printing and scanning

You can print pages in the Library or ConneXions; a small charge per page will be added to your on board account.  If you require a document to be digitally scanned, please speak to the Purser’s Desk.

Complimentary Internet Time for Cunard World Club Members

  • Gold tier members of the Cunard World Club receive up to two hours complimentary internet time per voyage
  • Platinum members receive up to four hours complimentary internet time per voyage
  • Diamond members receive up to eight hours complimentary internet time per voyage

Free packages for World Club members must be purchased in the normal way and will then be refunded at the end of the cruise. The free usage is per voyage, except on world voyages when it will be refreshed at the end of every financial sector. Any enquiries about World Club usage will be dealt with in the Voyage Sales Office in the Grand Lobby on Deck 1.

Internet station opening hours and locations

The internet stations are open 24 hours a day. Assistance is available at various times throughout the day and evening.

Internet stations are located in the following areas:

  • Queen Victoria- The Library on Deck 3 (24 hours) and Cunard ConneXions Classroom on Deck 1 - (9am-7pm, except when learning sessions are taking place)
  • Queen Elizabeth– The Library on Deck 3
  • Queen Mary 2– Cunard ConneXions iStudy on Deck 2

Stay Connected - calling home

Most people find their mobile phones work well at sea. You’ll see ‘Telenor’ or ‘90112’ if you’re connected to International Marine Roaming. Charges are added to your mobile bill. You can also use your cabin phone to make calls, charges will be added to your on board account.

Skype and video calling connections

The restrictions with available satellite connectivity and bandwidth make the use of Skype and other video calling (Facetime etc.) extremely unreliable and we do not recommend their use on-board.

I meant definitive, as being in writing and coming from Cunard. That said,

Seems to depend on the definition of Voyage

You're right. I was interpreting that to mean 'segment'. But it could be translated as booking, which is how our agent had interpreted it. Since our last two back-to-backs were booked as separate bookings, it hasn't been an issue for us (yet).

The problem with Voyage meaning Segment is that they go out of their way to explain that Segments of a world cruise are tested as separate voyages for CWC internet purposes. This suggests that on a "normal" booking a single voyage gets one allocation even though it comprises multiple segments

Perhaps it boils down to what one asks for. My friends only got one allocation over 23 days (3 or 5 segments, depending on how one counts) including two TAs and some cruising around in between. But they're fairly new at it (about to reach Platinum) and are still figuring out the details. We got off for five days in the middle so obviously we got two allocations for our two booking numbers.

Thanks, that's definitive. Is that from the website?

The Pursers desk unfortunately does not always give out the correct information regarding the internet for Cunard World Club members.

The rest was from their UK website

Our world cruise segments are always booked as one complete booking and we get a separate  allowance for each segment, unused credits carried over to the next segment to be added to the new allowance.

Passengers don't get any bonus minutes when registering for the internet in the first day or two now, so what that meant this year was,  any unused credit was carried over to the next segment and when that was used up, the current segment's allowance was then registered for.

Would b2b TA be treated in the same way?

The quoted language from the website says world cruise segments are treated differently from other cruises.

"The free usage is per voyage, except on world voyages when it will be refreshed at the end of every financial sector. "

Missed that snippet. Thanks.
