USD on Panama Canal cruise?

We will be in Mexico,Costa Rica and Colombia on a Panama Canal cruise. I feel pretty sure that all 3 countries accept USD, but is it a GOOD exchange rate, or am is it better to get local currency?

we have used USD  all three trips  through the canal

Most places price in USD  & some in local currency 

We do not buy much  so it is less hassle just to use  USD

Oops I see OP has posted this four times and I replied to one.  I think I can still delete.  But I'm surprised that US$ are acceped.

We have also used USD, last year in all these ports.   USD is widely used and accepted.  If you wish to purchase Local money, simply go to a local bank or atm.
