Change in Debarkation in LA due to reduced speeds to protect marine life

Do you really think so?

I am, certainly, no expert, but I thought that driving a ship was similar to driving a car in that holding the throttle wide open sucked up more fuel than pretending there was a egg between your foot and the pedal.

We need the chief engineer to provide an opinion that is more informed than mine to help out, here.

Going slower uses less fuel. There is a point where the reduced consumption per day is outweighed by the extra DAYS steaming, but this only comes into consideration when the passage is many days long (certainly longer than 7 days). Fuel consumption in relation to speed is an exponential relation, so the top6couple of knots adds a great deal to the fuel consumption.

We received a similar notification for our Nov 1 Vancouver to LA coastal. We now depart Vancouver at 3PM (was originally 4PM) and we arrive in San Pedro at 8:30 AM (was originally 6:15AM). It doesn’t affect us all that much. We fly into YVR the day before and we were going to have to wait until 8:30AM for the Avis office to open in Long Beach to pick up the rental car, so assuming we can now be in the first walk off group and quickly grab an UBER, we shouldn’t be that much later arriving at home, than originally planned.
