gmonks33 Posted October 4, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2019 Going on the Westerdam to Alaska. Still choosing a cabin. On the Navigation Deck 8 they have a bunch of SY suites and 2 SZ suites. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 2? Has anyone ever stayed in the SZ suites?? Can't wait to get to Alaska!

Can't wait to get to Alaska! SZ’s are usually offered as a guarantee category. I have never seen the able to book unless you do it as a guarantee. For the Signature Suites, I far prefer to choose a cabin as on the Vista Class (like the Westerdam) a number are under the Lido. Some can have no problem with the deck above but others can be disturbed IMO.

Can't wait to get to Alaska! Difference is location - cabins are the same for the most part. As Kazu said, most times you can only book SZ as a guarantee, but once in awhile you can. On Deck 8 I pick a cabin under the carpeted area of the Lido dining.

About 13 feet! 😁 Seriously, 8092 and 8097 are identical to all the SY's forward of them. Back before a mass recategorization a few years ago swapped the decks for the SY and SS cabins, 8092 and 8097 were SS just like ones next door. Back then the two SZ cabins were 6052 and 6117, which are now both SS. The SZ designation is strictly a marketing tool so they can advertise suites at lower price, usually only as guarantees as the previous posters said. We are booked on 8094 Westerdam.. Did we luck out under carpet?
DaveOKC Posted October 5, 2019 #6 Share Posted October 5, 2019 (edited) You are lucky to have gotten the "angled" SY cabin. We love those! As to your question - almost all of the Lido dining area is carpeted. On the Westerdam that means all of the Signature Suites aft of the midship elevators. HOWEVER, recent remodels of the Vista class ships have seen some of them adding a bit of tile right above your angled cabin. We had this on the sister ship Zuiderdam. We did hear some noise at times, but IMO it was not a big deal - would still take that cabin due to the larger space and the angle. Not sure if they did this on the Westerdam though. holacanada Posted October 5, 2019 #7 Share Posted October 5, 2019 (edited) For me If I can add some info, I received a kind of Upsell like booking an SC cabin on Noordam and finally obtained an SA one. Easier for Club Lounge visits on a 26 days cruise…! Edited October 5, 2019 by holacanada
Rare bluesplayer Posted October 5, 2019 #8 Share Posted October 5, 2019 We stayed on an “angled” cabin on the Eurodam and loved the balcony & room. It did have rooms above us; not the Lido. Glad to know you would book the cabin again. We are booked to Antarctica and the seas probably will be more disruptive than the noise.. but so excited!!
