Ethel6666 Posted October 8, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2019 Published October 2019. https://shop.lonelyplanet.com/products/cruise-ports-european-rivers-1 Given that it covers all of the major routes including Rhine, Danube, Volga, Douro, Elbe, Seine, Main, etc, each port is limited to a few pages, a bit more for major cities. IMO makes it not overly useful as a guidebook to take with you. But might be good as an overview to help decide on which route to choose. And has a few extras like brief overview guides to European art, history, architecture and food. 1
Mo52 Posted October 9, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2019 I'm doing Budapest to Amsterdam in May 2020 so I've ordered the hard copy and ebook. It will probably be ok as not a lot of time is spent in the ports, some of which are quite small. It doesn't have any information on Amsterdam, but there is some information on Budapest. Rare Roz Posted October 9, 2019 #3 Share Posted October 9, 2019 How could they not include Amsterdam? I'm not a fan of Lonely Planet guides. I'll read what they publish about the place where I live or places I've visited and just shake my head. A lot of wrong or misleading info IMO. G.M.T. Posted October 9, 2019 #4 Share Posted October 9, 2019 Lonely Planets used to be very good, literately run by travel enthusiasts. then take over by BBC. I find travel guides tend to be out of date even before they are published. I do online research for the place we are visiting and for our interests, then make up our own guise on mobile or tab. But each to their own. Main thing one has fun.🍻
