Help making the best of a Naples Port stop

Was wondering how far it is from where celebrity docks to Pompeii. We have a pretty good onboard credit with celebrity and we want to maximize our time in Pompeii. The problem is my wife wants an extensive tour of Pompeii. We want to spend every minute we can in Port. Unfortunately celebrities largest Excursion that includes Pompeii does not have the extensive tour of Pompeii. They have a small group tour of Pompeii that is 4 hours but you have to return back to the ship after the tour. Ideally we would like a small group tour of Pompeii and a lesser tour of the Amafaly coast. Anyone done something like this?

On Royal C. there was a tour that took us on a boat tour of the Amalfi Coast in the morning and then to Pompeii in the afternoon.  Too bad Celebrity does not have something similar.

Your biggest problem is time. If you really want to do some of the Amalfi Coast, you really do not have time for more than about a 2-hour tour of Pompeii.

 

Alternatively, you could spend about 4 hours in Pompeii, then take the train to Sorrento and spend a little time there before returning to Naples either by the hydrofoil from Sorrento (which would be my first choice) or the train.

 

This plan would be easy enough to do on your own. Another option would be to take your ship's tour of Pompeii but then remain behind after the tour and spend more time on your own. You can take the train back or get a taxi (although Pompeii is a fair distance from Naples).
