American Queen newbie question

How much storage space is there in an Outside stateroom with open verandah? It's hard to tell from the pictures.  We are experience Caribbean cruisers but this is our first time on a river cruise.

Are you asking about the American Queen or one of the other boats?  On the AQ, the storage space depends on the category of stateroom.  The beds are high enough so that you can store your suitcases underneath.  There will be a small-ish closet or armoire for hanging, and some drawers - the number of which is dependent on category.  We have traveled in a variety of categories, and while the space is not large, we were able to fit in all we brought along.

Yes, the American Queen., specifically the outside stateroom with open verandah.  DH is NOT going to be happy if we have to live out of our suitcases.

There are are two categories designated as outside with open verandah:  C and B.  They vary in size, with the B cabins being larger and therefore having more storage space.  Our B cabin last summer (415) had a small closet, and about 7 drawers, along with some cubbyhole space.  We managed fine.  When we were in a C cabin a few years ago, we found it tight, so B is now our preferred category.  I think the C had an armoire instead of closet and fewer drawers.  It also was shower only instead of shower and tub, although that was not a drawback for us.

We were recently on the American Queen (New Orleans) to Memphis and were on D deck Cabin 425. 

It was ideal in every respect...plenty of room and view from the outside verandah. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Look carefully at the deck plan.  Some cabins with the open verandah have only that door while others have two doors with one going to the inside hallway.  I'm not sure how they compare from a size and storage perspective.

This is a useful thread. We are newbies in a “two door” room so very interested in our storage. We are on a four week holiday so will have three cases though we don’t have to unpack them all

The beds are high enough to store a couple of large cases underneath if you do not need to unpack everything.

 

If you are in a B cabin, you will likely have a small closet, about 7 drawers, and a couple of cubbyhole type spaces.

Thanks for all the information.  Our TA checked with AQSC and was told that all the Cat. C cabins have a closet and shelf space, so that is what we have booked.  Looking forward to the trip.
