Several people at that table wanted, and expected others to join hands and pray. We found it distasteful. I had no intention whatsoever in joining hands with a stranger nor did I appreciate the expectation that everyone at the table would participate in someone else’s faith practices. Don’t like being touched by strangers...especially the hugging business. Wear mittens, like Young Sheldon. 😜 I have never had what you describe happen and I don't know what I would do, but it would definitely make me uncomfortable. Just roll your eyes back ...stare at the ceiling and start talking gibberish... they'll not ask you again 😉

IrieBajan54 Posted February 10, 2020 #29 Share Posted February 10, 2020 (edited) For several years now, I stopped shaking hands both on land and on cruise ships. I do the fist bump and in some cases the lower arm bump when initiated by the other person. I have had a few awkward moments on ships. One recently when a Cruise Director who I had met previously stuck his hand out. I responded by sticking my fist out and we bumped. We laughed and I said that is a noro buster. Another thing I refuse to do is touch a dinner mate's phone. I have sat at large tables where some people want to show pics of their daily sightseeing or or their cute kids/grands/pets. If they hold the phone, I will look. However, I will not pass their phone to someone else. Can get awkward but I will not budge. Phones are a germ factory that many people use even in a toilet stall. I am also surprised that some people still use handkerchiefs. After the first use it is soiled. You're right. I use the sleeve on my dinner jacket.
