Synguru Posted February 10, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2020 Sailing on the NA, departing FLL on March 13. Last HAL cruise was on the Koningsdam in 2016. The beer selection was very disappointing given the state of the craft beer scene. Can anyone point me to a list of the beers that HAL is currently offering on various ships? catl331 Posted February 10, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2020 Here is one from a couple months ago. (page 3) http://www.rogerjett-photography.com/here/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Bar-Menu.pdf I don't know which ship
Rare Tom O. Posted February 10, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2020 The beer selection is not that great. One thing that is unusual, is that Heineken, which usually sells in the US as an import and cost more, is the cheapest beer on board. I assume this is because it is a Dutch beer sold on a Dutch ship. Whatever the reason, I will enjoy some on my next cruise.

Heineken was 1.00 per bottle 🙂 They poured a glass of Dom Perignon on Formal night.. Rock African Lobster tails, caviar, etc.. those were the days
Former Non-cruiser Posted February 10, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 10, 2020 I have never understood why there is not a better selection of draft beers. On my last Alaska cruise on the Amsterdam they had draft Alaskan Brewery beers from kegs at the Lido pool bar for part of the trip, otherwise just Heineken on draft. I would think it would be very easy, and cheap for HAL, to pick up kegs of popular craft beers at their various ports.
Rare FlaMariner Posted February 10, 2020 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2020 Heineken and Holland America Line go great together.......It's the only beer we need onboard and the only one we consider!
TAD2005 Posted February 10, 2020 #7 Share Posted February 10, 2020 I have always enjoyed the Dutch beer Grolsch. It comes in that pop top bottle, and is about 18 oz. It has always been served on HAL ships, but on the Eurodam, last March in the South Pacific, they told me they ran out. They did have Heineken on draft in some bars. My next cruise is on the Rotterdam, and it originates in Rotterdam for 29 days to Ft.Lauderdale. There should be no reason not to have a good supply on board. kstrittm Posted February 11, 2020 #8 Share Posted February 11, 2020 I agree - the draft beer selection is poor. In my experience, I've always seen Heineken. On Alaska trips, they offer Alaskan Amber. Otherwise, it's usually Newcastle Brown Ale. Another negative is that only a few bars offer draft beer! I sure would like to see HAL open brew pubs that have at least a few craft beers on tap! grsnovi Posted February 11, 2020 #9 Share Posted February 11, 2020 Perhaps those of us who live in the PNW of the USA have gotten spoiled? Gone are the days when the only beer you could get were: Bud, Miller, PBR, Heineken and Lowenbrau. These days the beer aisle in the supermarkets here in Portland, OR likely have 200 varieties. TAD2005 Posted February 11, 2020 #10 Share Posted February 11, 2020 The Gallery Bar, on ships that have it, is the best place to get a variety of draft beer. The Gallery Bar is usually behind the casino on Vista class ships and the Eurodam. The Lido bar and Seaview Bar also have Heineken draft in smaller bar-top mini-kegs, and occasionally they have a portable full barrel size keg chiller next to the bar. Rare Tom O. Posted February 11, 2020 #11 Share Posted February 11, 2020 Does anybody know if they serve Heineken draft in the MDR. I don't recall ever ordering a beer with my dinner, but I might on my next cruise. I would prefer a draft rather than a can or bottle.
