Shopping downtown???

We were in Cozumel in 2013 and took a taxi from the cruise port to downtown. We enjoyed shopping and browsing off of the main street. Looking for current info and I am not seeing any information about shopping downtown Cozumel  Is it safe and how far is it from Puerta Maya Cruise pier? We will be there in two weeks.

Shopping downtown is still safe, as is the island in general - at least anyplace 99% of the tourists would go.  Taxi to downtown will run about $8 each way.  Have a great cruise! 😎

depending on where you go and traffic, 3-4 miles, 15-20 minutes.

yes and prices listed in US$ on the board at the port.

Taxis in Cozumel are controlled by a union, so to speak.  They are required to charge the prices posted everywhere on the island.  If they get caught overcharging, they can lose their license.  So it is very very important to them to follow the rules.

 

As far as time to get downtown... the past few years, with so many ships in port, and so many taxis, traffic can be horrible.  So what used to take 10 minutes can now take 20-30 minutes depending what time of day.  So depending on how many ships are in port the day you are there, keep this in mind.
