worldtraveller99 Posted February 29, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 29, 2020 Hallo anyone who is on or about to be on the Silver Muse! We are booked and aiming to go to Alaska on the Silver Muse this July. But I know it was due to spend the next 2 months in Asia. Is it still doing this? I am assuming that if they ever get the Diamond Princess out of quarantine they will fumigate, refurbish and maybe even rename it - that's what I would do anyway. So their future cruises on that ship this year will probably be lost. Is this likely to happen with the Silver Muse? I guess not, so where do you know it is going to spend the next few months? Thank you for your help.
badgerdee Posted February 29, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 29, 2020 (edited) We’re on Muse right now. There is simply no comparison to be made with Diamond Princess. When we dock in Sydney on Tuesday, Muse heads to NZ. As far as we know, there’s no change to the forward itinerary, which is freely available on the Silversea website. Hope you enjoy Alaska, we loved it. Edited February 29, 2020 by badgerdee
Ddc1818 Posted February 29, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 29, 2020 From the Australia region, Muse goes to Singapore at end of March and then on to Yokohama. Really? Yokohama is where the Diamond Princess docked, right? Hundreds were sickened and some died. Not to mention Japan is worried enough that they cancelled school for a month. The plus side side is that Muse will be in Alaska a couple months before your July cruise (same as us). It’s a guess what Alaska will look like a couple months from now. daddyo Posted February 29, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 29, 2020 We are on the May 4th, Muse - Yokohama to Vancouver voyage. So far there have been no changes to the itinerary. The previous voyage from Singapore makes 3 Japanese ports before docking in Yokohama. With all the precautions Japanese Officials are taking in regards of the Olympics, it would seem unlikely that they would let any ship dock in their territory. Since we were well within the 120 cancellation period when the Corona Virus broke, we will have to wait and see how Silversea reacts to the environment going forward. Fortunately, we booked our air and hotel through SS, so they will have to sort any logistical issues if changes do occur.
worldtraveller99 Posted February 29, 2020 Author #6 Share Posted February 29, 2020 We are the other way round - our SS Alaska cruise is just 1 week in a 3 week Alaska holiday. If they did cancel I would aim to get flights from Vancouver to Juneau for a few days, then on to Anchorage, and hopefully add the hotel and car there a couple of days early. But I hope it doesn't come to that. I look forward please to hearing how your cruise goes daddyo.

Hope you enjoy Alaska, we loved it. Good luck to those on the Silver Muse. We super enjoyed that wonderful ship last summer in doing Vancouver to Alaska. We were exploring for our first time both Alaska and western Canada. Impressed by this ship and much is detailed below on my live/blog. We are now in the South Pacific and have been in port with the Silver Muse three different times during the past week or so. This Silversea ship looked good!! BUT, things are really in flux for many ports in Asia, etc. Just on our cruise at some distance from China, three ports have been scrubbed and adjustment were needed. For those closer to China, etc., things seem very uncertain and/or confused. Our best wishes for those now trying to figure out their plans and risks!! THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio Completed last summer Calgary, Jasper/Banff National Parks, Western Canada Rocky Mountaineer rail adventure, Vancouver, sailing up to Alaska, post-cruise excursion to Denali, etc. Lots of visuals and details from our first visits to these scenic areas!! This ship was docking here and in the two other South Pacific ports where our paths crossed within the past week or so.: (Open your screen/viewer wider to see this visual larger/better!) You win the prize!! That Silver Muse picture was taken at Noumea, New Caledonia, in the afternoon on Friday, Feb. 21. But, we were also in port with the Silver Muse at Port Vila. Saw the great ship three different times in the South Pacific. By the way, Noumea is building a significantly new enhancement for the cruise docking facilities. Looks nice. THANKS! Enjoy! carefreecruise Posted March 13, 2020 #15 Share Posted March 13, 2020 Looks like the May and June sailing will need some tweaking. Canada has banned all cruise ships with 500 passengers/crew from ALL ports till July first. Alaska cruisers will need to check-in with Silversea...
zigtraveller Posted March 14, 2020 #16 Share Posted March 14, 2020 New Zealand has banned all cruise ships until 30 June. The Muse was enroute to Auckland, so not sure what this means for all onboard.
worldtraveller99 Posted March 14, 2020 Author #17 Share Posted March 14, 2020 I have suggested to our TA to speak with Silversea and swap Muse itineraries with those of one of their smaller ships, so the Alaska season isn't lost. I am horrified with the cavalier way these Governments wish to put the whole cruise industry out of business.

I don't think you quite understand the impact of infection on our countries with small populations and free public health. We don't have the facilities to treat people in this situation. We are trying to slow the growth. The rural hospital Miss W is at is 325 beds for a town population of 65000 and if including those in the areas surrounding 155 000 (and that includes mental health beds etc) With the average of 10% of population needing ICU they are in deep. Many specialists are FIFO. They know they wont cope. It's not targeted at cruises. NZ is aimed at all travellers. It's going to hurt their economy big time so i don't think they are worried about targeting the cruise industry,. its so bad they canned the cricket! I feel awful for everyone who has their holiday disrupted or cancelled.
megavfm Posted March 21, 2020 #19 Share Posted March 21, 2020 I've been in NZ for the last week (arrived 7 hours before the travel restrictions were imposed). Spent the last few days in Auckland and chanced upon the Silver Muse docked at Princes wharf; looked pretty deserted apart from 3 crew members (I presume ) on deck 11. Someone was taking the opportunity to paint the funnel. She wasn't alone though, RCL cousin Azamara Journey was furloughed nearby at the Queens wharf. Flying home today and the mandatory self-isolation for 14 days. Stay safe and well everyone.
