lesliedrew Posted March 2, 2020 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2020 Any word on what Spirit will do with the three nights they will miss in Myanmar? What's being said on board? Thanks. https://www.mmtimes.com/news/about-turn-myanmar-cancels-cruise-ship-visit.html
Rare Silver Spectre Posted March 2, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2020 I am not surprised that the Spirit can no longer visit Myanmar or Sri Lanka, however going to Yangon is usually the reason for taking that voyage. I hope SS understands that when assessing compensation.
QueSeraSera Posted March 3, 2020 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2020 I had to look up Yangon - its the former Rangoon. So what was Rangoon, Burma is Yangon, Myanmar. I realize possibly everyone here knows this except me, but the board has been kind of quiet lately... 🙂 Will next be researching whether crab Rangoon has also been renamed. 1
yogagal47 Posted March 3, 2020 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2020 Is anyone aware if Silver Sea offered a cancellation or FCC for this cruise? Clearly passengers are not getting the cruise they signed up for. Any posters currently aboard care to weigh in about your experience?
asm777 Posted March 3, 2020 #5 Share Posted March 3, 2020 (edited) Looks like the ship is currently on its way to Penang, Malaysia: https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/shipid:372843/zoom:10 Edited March 3, 2020 by asm777

QueSeraSera Posted March 4, 2020 #8 Share Posted March 4, 2020 yes, the pace of these changes is bewildering. And those are a couple of big towns to go silent rp. Who put out all these incorrect names in the first place? 😉
Lazy Sailor Posted March 4, 2020 #9 Share Posted March 4, 2020 We're hoping to be joining the spirit in Mumbai on 15th. Anybody heard any reasons why India might turn them away. I see the ship stayed in Penang for a day.
Rare Silver Spectre Posted March 4, 2020 #10 Share Posted March 4, 2020 According to FB posts SS is giving a 50% goodwill refund and a 25% FCC. Considering that guests will still enjoy their cruise, IMHO that seems fair.
wren2 Posted March 4, 2020 #11 Share Posted March 4, 2020 I, too, am supposed to be boarding the Spirit in Mumbai. Hope Silversea will let us know in advance if there is a port change. I do not know how much notice is given by the port authorities if a ship is barred from docking.

As to India they are tightening up on travel to India- "On 03 March, India announced the suspension of all visas issued to nationals of Italy, Iran, South Korea and Japan who have not yet entered the country. Visas issued to foreign nationals who travelled to China, Iran, Italy, South Korea and Japan who have not yet entered the country have also been cancelled. " https://www.pharmaceutical-technology.com/features/coronavirus-affected-countries-india-measures-impact-pharma-economy/ They are considering bans on people traveling from those countries. 1
kool kruiser Posted March 24, 2020 #14 Share Posted March 24, 2020 We were on this cruise and I will be posting some thoughts soon, once I get straight, having only been back home for a few days. Ultimately, the goodwill offer was increased to a 75% refund and 25% FCC, which I personally feel was very fair in the circumstances. What I will say for now is that Silversea and all on the ship were superb in really difficult circumstances.
