Jcol5786 Posted March 8, 2020 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2020 Hello, We have a cruise booked on Empress out of Miami next year however it looks like the best flight for us would be to Fort Lauderdale the day before. This flight arrives at noon. The cruise leaves on Saturday out of Miami. I'm thinking that we should look for a hotel in Miami which will make it a shorter trip the next day to the cruise port. What would be the best way to get from FL AP to a Miami hotel near the cruise port? Or maybe we would be better off staying in a hotel in Fort Lauderdale and travelling to the cruise port from FL the next day? Any thoughts on the best way to do this would be appreciated. I don't really care which city we stay in the night before but we are hoping to find an economical way of doing this. If not we may as well purchase a more expensive flight that arrives in Miami and we will not need to worry about getting from Fort Lauderdale and back. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Cienfuegos Posted March 8, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2020 what season / month do you expect to be departing? Peak winter hotel rooms in Miami and Fort Lauderdale are priced much higher than shoulder season. Both areas have good restaurants and beach etc.
CruiserBruce Posted March 8, 2020 #3 Share Posted March 8, 2020 There are MANY threads down the board on both your topics. Shuttle is the very commonly recommended transport, followed by Uber/Lyft. Where you stay is up to you and your interests. Either is discussed here frequently....sometimes Ft Lauycan be cheaper, other times there isn't a significant difference. Jcol5786 Posted March 9, 2020 Author #4 Share Posted March 9, 2020 We are arriving in February which I suspect is during the high season. 10 hours ago, CruiserBruce said: There are MANY threads down the board on both your topics. I suspect that statement can be made about just about any post on this board but thanks anyway.
Fred&Lily Posted March 9, 2020 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2020 Book your flight to FLL and then later on, much closer to when you cruise, start looking for a hotel deal anywhere between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. A taxi between FLL airport and POM is about $70 and if you follow Trivago/Hotels/Expedia/Hotwire etc you'll find some nice hotel that saves much much more than $70 for one night. Look along Hollywood Beach or Sunny Isles Beach or North Miami - have a fun evening walk on the beach and another walk the following morning and don't worry about transportation. Taxis are easy. JohninDC Posted March 9, 2020 #6 Share Posted March 9, 2020 The best way to get from FLL to your downtown Miami hotel is a stretch limo with a stocked bar. 😉 UberX or standard Lyft should run $35+, and another $10+ ride will get you to POM the next day. Dates, budget, and who is traveling (honeymoon? Family trip?) will help the suggestions to be closer to your target.
