Skallywag Posted February 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2006 We have done the Disney Cruise and were well pleased with curtailment of smoking on the ship - does anyone know of another cruise line that has strict no-smoking policy in cabins etc. Thank you
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 7, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2006 None that I know of. The cabin stewards do a very good job of getting rid of the smoke in the cabins for on-coming passengers. At one time the Carnival Pride was a completely smoke-free ship but even that has been done away with.
Cotton Posted February 7, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2006 It was Carnival Paradise that was totally non-smoking. Most lines allow smoking in cabins and in limited areas of the ship.
jlittle Posted February 7, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2006 dec. 2004 we used the RCCL Rhapsody. The only smoking was outside on one side of the deck, on one side of pool, upper deck only., and casino. It was like being on a non-smoking ship. You could walk the corrider the floor below or above the casino and get on the elevators on the other side of the casino so yo never had to walk thru it to get somewhere. You never had smoky bars, etc. Other ships we have sailed don't have that design which is pitiful. Why they cater to the 24% of the smokers and ruin vacations for the 75% of the non-smokers I still don't understand. Plain & simple. Cigarette smoke does not have "brain" enough to know to stay above the head of the person who just blew it into the public air. Why do cruise lines, or any public areas still ahve the attitude that it does? j little lawrence, ks.
Andee Posted February 7, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2006 The Oceania ships (Insignia, Nautica, Regatta) do not permit smoking on most of the ship, including in cabins or on private balconies. Smoking is allowed in one small section of the pool deck, and in one small section of the Horizon lounge.
cruzinjr Posted February 9, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2006 Ihave to comment!!! well, this could be a battle that could go on and on (just like jeans in dining, sneaking booze aboard...) but as far as i'm concerned people just need to act with a little courtesy! Last I checked, I paid the same amount for a vacation as a non smoker, so why should I suffer? I choose to smoke, just as someone else chooses not to smoke...there's no way around it, there will always be a disgusting smoker around! My DH is an avid nonsmoker, and I try to give him the respect of smoking away from him and our kids. No reason to be nasty, but if someone is smoking, just ask politely if they can extinguish or go somewhere else. Kill them with kindness!:) Have a nice day!:) p.s. you did use the word "public" didn't you?
suzeyQ Posted February 10, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 10, 2006 I agree that this wouldn't be an issue at all if people would act with a little courtesy. The problem is that people DON'T act with courtesy (and I'm referring to people in general, not smokers/non-smokers). In the context of smoking, though, I don't know how many time I've been in a casino and had someone come and sit beside me and hold their cigarette 3 inches from my face. I was a smoker for 14 years and even while I smoked, that bothered me. You're right - you paid as much as everyone else for the cruise. But I guess the question is who's suffering more? You, by having to step outside for a smoke? Or me, by not being able to stay in the casino/bar because of the smoke?
molly361 Posted February 10, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 10, 2006 Yes to the cabin stewards doing a fine job of cleaning the cabins- I have NEVER smeeled smoke in the cabins of any cruises we have been on- I think that there should be accomodations for both smokers and non smokers like they do on most ships- you can smoke on one side and not the other- we talked to several Carnival employees and were told that the Paradise was made back into asmoking vessel as revenues went way way down as in people not drinking and gambling due to non smoking- not sure if that is true but several differenct employess told us that story
cruzinjr Posted February 10, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 10, 2006 As far as the room odor goes, I try not to smoke in any room, (hotels) because even as a smoker...I can't stad that stale old cigarette smell! So I smoke either on the balcony or open a window or go outside (even in the dead of winter). I actually frequent a casino by me and we have a smoking/nonsmoking section...guess this isn't the case with the cruise? If ya run into me on a cruise and my smoking is offending you, please bring it my attention in a rational way and I'd be happy to accomodate you if possible! ;)
Cotton Posted February 10, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 10, 2006 I consider myself a very considerate smoker. If someone asked me nicely, yes I would be glad to move to another area, although maybe they should be the ones to move? Things work both ways. Once, while on Lido Deck by the pool (in the smoking area), a man told me my smoke was bothering him and that I should move elsewhere. Huh? I smiled and pointed to the sign on the other side of Lido - 'non smoking'. He moved. Even as a smoker, I'm very glad that all food venues and the main showlounge are non-smoking.:)
