Rare DaisyUK Posted April 12, 2020 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2020 Am biting on the bullet and booking a Splendor cruise for later this year. I have the choice of Grand Suite 1200, 1012 or 902. Have never had a suite right at the front before due to reading on CC about furniture having to be tied down and not being able to use the balcony during travel. However, am tempted this time due to the fact that the balcony also goes around the side. Can anyone offer any insight as to the pros and cons of each? Also, is the mid-ship suite bigger than the ones at the front, albeit with a smaller balcony? Any help would be very much appreciated... thanks! Travelcat2 Posted April 12, 2020 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2020 Although we have not stayed on Splendor in a Grand Suite, we have on Explorer in Grand Suite 1201 and I believe they are the same configuration. If you are looking for a huge balcony, 1200 is it. The downside is that you feel the motion of the ocean in two directions (side to side and forward to aft). The bathroom in that suite is fabulous. Suites 1012 and 902 were built as Seven Seas Suites on Explorer and were. upgraded to become Grand Suites. They are lovely suites - smaller balcony and master bath but beautiful. Our upcoming cruisers are in the same area of the ship (918, 920, etc.). The forward suites are great but we were a bit seasick so we'll stick to the former Seven Seas Suites. If you can take the movement of the ship, I'd go with 1200.
Rare DaisyUK Posted April 12, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted April 12, 2020 Thank you so much for this info. We are going to go for it. We have never been 'right' at the front before so may live to regret it, but so far neither of us has ever been seasick so we feel it's a risk worth taking. Would probably have preferred the aft suites, but they have already gone. Not sure the cruise will even happen at this point..

I have the choice of Grand Suite 1200, 1012 or 902. As we recall, TC actually stayed in 1200 and not 1201. They are both the same though. We stayed in 1201 on a Panama Canal cruise and found the suite perfect for viewing everything. The master bathroom is something else. The shower has a window that takes one whole side of the shower stall and looks out over your forward deck. The bathtub has a large picture window that looks out over the side of the ship. We were not bothered by any motion of the suite, but that is just us. As you know, it all depends on what weather and seas you encounter. We didn't try 1012 because it is on the side of the ship and the balcony wasn't as big as we wanted. 902 (we could be mistaken, so do check it out) has a slanted wall in the bedroom that is a bit awkward. We also believe 902 is a connecting suite, and you may/may not care about that. We would certainly stay in 1201 again (or 1200).

The suite does sound wonderful, so we are going to go with it - assuming that we survive this crisis and that the cruise goes ahead at all. It's good to have something to look forward to in these dreadful times. We appreciate all the help and advice given on this board, which I read often even though I don't post much. I know it seems weird to be thinking of a cruise right now and I feel somewhat selfish even thinking about something so frivolous. At the same time, it's helping to keep us sane and not harming anyone else, so we are going for it. Thank you again to all those who responded - and to everyone who contributes to this board and gives so much valuable help, advice and information so freely. We did stay in 1200 (we were supposed to be in 1201 on Splendor last month). 1200 is above the Observation Lounge and we heard noise from there every afternoon and in the evening. The soundproofing on Splendor is likely better than on Explorer. Agree about the bathroom - it is wonderful (even if it is a bit odd to take a shower next to a window). Really would love to be in that suite right now (and stay there for a few months).
