klfrodo Posted April 25, 2020 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2020 Which US flagged airline is not coming out on the other side of this? Any of the majors? American has the least in cash reserves. https://thepointsguy.com/news/us-airlines-cash-reserves-coronavirus/
FredT Posted April 25, 2020 #2 Share Posted April 25, 2020 They will all come out of this on "the other side" ..... The question really is weather they will come out of it under bankruptcy protection....
Rare FlyerTalker Posted April 26, 2020 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2020 Well, Trans States Airlines has already folded. They had announced, in February, a wind-down towards closing at the end of the year. That was hastened by the current situation and they closed April 1. Compass Airlines closed on April 5. It was also owned by Trans States Holdings, like Trans States Airlines. Ravn Air in Alaska has folded as well. Allegiant has a very vacation-focused operation, and much will depend on how tourists feel about vacationing in Vegas and Orlando. My wager is 50-50. Same with Sun Country. American, Delta, United, Southwest, Alaska, JetBlue, Hawaiian, Frontier and Spirit will continue - with some going through bankruptcy reorganization. Internationally, South African is closing, with a new state-owned carrier to replace it. Whatever comes along will continue to be a money pit with wings. Virgin Australia is in bankruptcy. Alitalia has been nationalized, with a "new Alitalia" coming online. If they have the same labor issues, consider this a pit to rival the new airline in South Africa. Norwegian has four subsidiaries in bankruptcy and Hainan is still on life-support.
AF-1 Posted April 27, 2020 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2020 Delta will be smaller. They will be retiring the entire MD fleet; around 73 aircraft. I say it's about time they retired those jets.
