BabySarge Posted June 14, 2020 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2020 Interesting read; well written and researched article. http://www.yourcruisecoach.com/cruise-travel-and-covid-19-perception-vs-reality/?fbclid=IwAR1UVQIpBRrC9jgqyx_evrkdrFDEUQPjwiq56LpgHqvvCMKEQ_RLE9KWNj0
mnocket Posted June 14, 2020 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2020 Good read. The bottom line is that the reputation of the cruise industry has taken a real hit, and much of it is self-inflicted. It isn't just about the health aspect, which is all this article addresses. The way some sailings were handled during the initial outbreak showed poor leadership. The failure to repatriate crew members showed poor leadership. The ever evolving cancellation & refund policies show poor leadership. Most recently I read about a cruise line with crew still trapped aboard that was charging its stranded crew members for internet access. The cruise industry's image is surely tarnished, even if less so among us frequent cruisers. Almost all media coverage of the industry has been negative. They really need to hire some top notch PR consultants to rebuild the reputation and stop them from doing things that give the impression that they don't really value their crew or customers.
donaldsc Posted June 14, 2020 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2020 (edited) Instead of changing nothing and hiring PR consultants to try to convince us that they are making changes, wouldn't it be better for them to actually make changes. However, given the past practices of the cruise industry, it think that the most likely scenario is that they change nothing and claim that they ar making them. I think also that it is more likely that those of us who are frequent cruises will retain our tarnished image of the cruise industry as we know what is going on The rest of the people who don't follow the shenanigans of the industry will not have a clue. KevintheIrishDJ Posted June 14, 2020 #4 Share Posted June 14, 2020 Recently, on the Pacific Princess, I questioned a headwaiter about the lack of certain "safeguards" at the buffet. He went on and on about something about the level of risk. I think he said "class c".
