comeonnow1 Posted August 19, 2020 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2020 Hi all! Our river cruise is a ways off, but planning is fun. :) Does anyone out there know-If we do not book our air with Viking and instead do our own, can we purchase transfer with Viking to the airport upon disembarking the ship at the end of our cruise? We are planning our own pre-extension stay (Viking doesn't offer what/where we were interested in at this time), so I didn't think it would be worth the $50 air plus option to do through Viking as we wouldn't be using their transfer services at the start of our trip. But as for the end of the trip and getting to that airport with our bags...

Yes, you can book a transfer without purchasing airfare. The price of the transfer is included if you purchase airfare through Viking - in your case, the cost of the transfer would be at your expense. I cannot recall the cost of a transfer. We purchased our own airfare - we simply asked for a taxi at the Viking concierge desk and one was waiting for us at the end of the cruise at the appointed time - took us to the airport for less than the $$ Viking wanted for their transfer. If you prefer the Viking transfer just inquire at the concierge desk - they will take care of you. 🙂 Edited August 19, 2020 by dogs4fun

sharkster77 Posted August 20, 2020 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2020 Viking got us a taxi from Basel pier to the train station--under 30 euros. I'm sure they'd get you to the airport just as easily.

PRH Posted September 5, 2020 #6 Share Posted September 5, 2020 And better yet, you can time your own departure from the ship. Our Viking transfer left at 5:30 am for our 10 am flight (time to airport was 15 minutes). They bundle folks to fill the bus/transport so you could be going very early for your later flight. sharkster77 Posted September 5, 2020 #7 Share Posted September 5, 2020 YES--as I mentioned we were taking a train from Basel to Lucerne to DIY Lucerne--they asked us "What time would you like your cab to arrive?" Did not 'throw us off the boat' at a time convenient to them. Very easy disembarkation--no announcements made, everyone knows their departure time, and report to the lobby at the appointed time. When our cab arrived early, rather than make an announcement, someone was sent to the lounge to let us know. The benefits of <200 guests disembarking. Rare knoxclone Posted September 6, 2020 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2020 We also took cab to train station in Basel. After checking out of cabin, and having luggage removed to dockside, we were allowed to stay on the ship and have an early lunch as our train did not depart until mid afternoon. Very civilized.
