"Total Cost" to submit for price quote?

Recommended Posts

When I use online tools to request a price quote, the question is usually phrased to ask about "total cost" of the trip. And that's what I put in....  Total cruise fare, plus air tickets, plus hotel rooms before and after.

Not all of that is at risk.  At least in some scenarios.   Perhaps only one night hotel is at risk.  Perhaps my air travel can be changed or put on hold if needed.

Do we submit total cost, or the cost considered at risk when we ask for a quote?

Hi PelicanBill,

First, you should not be entering the total trip cost because if the quote system averages out the trip cost between the travelers you potentially will lose the pre-existing medical conditions and Cancel For Any Reason coverage.

Here are two blog posts I wrote about this:

https://tripinsurancestore.com/blog/how-to-correctly-quote-a-travel-insurance-plan/

https://tripinsurancestore.com/blog/we-average-the-cruise-suites-cost-between-us/

Next, your correct trip costs are: any prepaid trip costs that are subject to cancellation penalties or restrictions you pay prior to your departure and before something happens to cause you to cancel your trip.

Start with: “How much money, of what I had already paid, would I lose by cancelling my trip if I get hit by a cement truck at the last minute?”

I cover the trip cost in greater detail here:

https://tripinsurancestore.com/what-is-your-trip-cost/

Finally, it's possible your Trip Cost will change after you book your trip. You can always increase or decrease you insured trip cost later.

I hope this made sense.
