Viking air promotion questions

Our TA booked our flights today. Viking offered $1200 fares on this cruise, so we started with that, plus the $50 option to upgrade. When our TA asked if we could bump up to the extra-legroom coach seats, Viking said it would be an additional $1K per person!! 😱 So we passed on Viking Air and got the tickets directly from Delta … for $1200. Guess you just have to shop around.

Agreed. You do have to shop around. The truth is that sometimes Viking has the best deal and sometimes the airline has the best deal and you don't know until you shop the numbers. There are so many factors involved in pricing a ticket that it is impossible to predict.

However, there is one reason, at least right now, why buying your air through Viking regardless of price has some merit. If you buy your air through Viking, when you cancel or the sailing gets canceled, your airfare is refunded as well. If you buy your own ticket, you are stuck with dealing with the refund process and even then you might end with a voucher, not cash.

Yup, good point. If the difference had been less (a LOT less) than $2K, we would’ve gone with Viking Air.

From what I can tell, most US Airlines are only offering vouchers now but with no change fees and ability to change routes we figure that the ability to enjoy a half day in Reykjavik pre boarding outweighs the benefit of having Viking have the whole bundle.

The air vouchers are currently the problem we are having.  We had a March 2020 Disney cruise for 7 canceled and we got airline vouchers that expire March 2022.  Our 3rd rebooking of the Disney cruise puts us outside the airfare window.  The amount is significant so it looks like we will be flying business class to London assuming the RT airfares stay low.

Does Viking allow combining their program with vouchers one already has?

When booking a future cruise on the ship, the Cruise Consultant advised Viking Air could book our flights using our BA miles to upgrade/book flights in either Business or First.

However, it apprears that was an older policy, which is no longer in force, so if we wanted to use our BA miles, we would have had to book the flights ourselves.

Although your situation is a little different, as you have vouchers, I would check with Viking Air to determine if they will work with your vouchers.
