Louand66 Posted May 9, 2021 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2021 We are doing a 3 week tour of the Caribbean and want to do a lot of tours and also some rest day. Is Antigua better for a tour or a rest day ?? Many thanks
Rare crewsweeper Posted May 10, 2021 #2 Share Posted May 10, 2021 IMO, if you're cruising the Caribbean for 3 weeks, you're going to find the same old, same old as far as tours and activities. That said, Antigua has some very nice beaches and Ffryes Beach on the west coast or Dickenson Beach on the NorthWest Coast are great beaches with less crowds than the beaches around English Harbor. You'll get a nice tour of the island just driving to Dickenson or St. John.

The ship docks right in the middle of St. John's so you are already there. Dickensen is not far so you won't see much of the island on the way. You might want to pick just one activity rather than tour the whole island. Choose from swim with the stingrays, ziplining, circumnav on a catamaran, Nelson's Dockyard or laze on a beach. I'm partial to Turner's, one of the biggest, nicest and least crowded.
Rare crewsweeper Posted May 10, 2021 #4 Share Posted May 10, 2021 Oops, My bad. So used to the Atlantic Challenge which finishes at Nelsons my mind was remembering ships stopped there. But you're right. St. Johns is the cruise port.

There are indeed cruise ships that anchor in the English Harbor area but the great majority do use St. John's.
Rare crewsweeper Posted May 11, 2021 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2021 Yeah, but I should have know since our cruise next January is going to St John and I've got to get a tour or taxi to Nelson's Dockyard to greet rowers coming across. Back to topic. Can't argue with you on Turner's though only driven past. Pictures look really good.
mpdog42 Posted May 19, 2021 #7 Share Posted May 19, 2021 If you love history especially Military, Visit Nelson's and Shirley Heights...But do it on your own or with a private guide, The tours really don't give you enough time to see both places properly!

Plan C revert back to Plan A😉 Have fun Todd
