What is your experience being waitlisted?

We just waitlisted for a March ‘22 Tahiti cruise. I picked 5 categories, and I think our lowest number was 14 on the list. Should I get my hopes up?

Did you put a deposit down?  That increases your odds.

Yes, we did do that.

Just before final payment is due some people cancel.  This happened for us.  We got a call advising us of an available concierge cabin.  I think with the current delta variant unknowns more people will want to take a wait and see attitude.  Check for the FP date.

We were waitlisted in 5 categories for a November, 2022 cruise with all different #s and was really doubtful we would clear. In fact, I was in the process of booking with Azamara for a similar itinerary - same month as the "O" cruise. Then PRESTO! we were cleared!  GOOD LUCK!

I believe the results are itinerary/destination dependent. Oceania has a few itineraries that it runs once per year. Those itineraries are very popular and the cruise can totally sell out within hours or days of release. People plan years in advance for those cruises. Some of those cruises therefore have very little movement on their waitlists. If you give up your spot, it may take two (2) years to get another one booked.
 

Cruises that are repetitively ran, during the season, often have considerable movement on their waitlists. Replacing the cruise is easily done, therefore convenience takes precedence over necessity.

The real answer to this is that there is no one answer..its a wait and see process..
