On Avalon 13 day northbound now

Avalon welcomed us Wednesday for Embarkation in Basel. There are 26 passengers an 41 crew, so we are getting a lot of attention and small groups on tours. Service  has been great, along with the cuisine on this, our first river cruise.  We have been blessed with spectacular weather which makes a huge difference!  We are very impressed so far with the quality of the Avalon product, after 30 ocean cruises.

I think it’s wonderful that the various river cruise companies are really putting on a brave front, as they must be hearting, along with the staff.

We were on a Danube cruise with Avalon the first week of September.  We had 27 passengers and 30 crew members.  I agree service was fantastic, the crew was so happy to have us there.  Did not see any reduction in service or food quality from previous river cruise with Avalon (2018).  A very unique trip that we will probably not see again.

How can they maintain this financial deficit?  I'm happy for many who are enjoying their cruises.  Ours is late March 2022.  Hope they're still in business by then.

Avalon is part of Globus, a major company.  Don't forget, while they may not be doing the trips in Europe, the US is wide open, and they also have tours in Canada.  Yes, they are probably hurting, but a lot of staff are hired on contract through a staffing agency, so they didn't have to pay for that.

 

Several other lines are also connected with larger companies, and since Europe opened up in July(?) there are a lot of bookings.
