Additional cancellation for Horizon, Substituting Carnival Liberty on 1/8 and 1/16.

Just received notice from Carnival that our 1/8/22 Horizon cruise has been cancelled due to an extended dry dock needed to fix the propulsion issues. Carnival is pulling the Carnival Liberty back into service to sub for the Horizon on the 1/8 and 1/16 sailings and are offering a $200 per cabin OBC ($250 is a Havana Cabin was booked.)

We are likely going to just cancel when Carnival's website recognized our sailing has been cancelled but wanted to get the word out.

They are pulling both the Liberty and the Sunshine out of "warm storage" to fill the gap while Horizon goes to Europe to be repaired.

I am doing B2B on 1/8 and 1/16, switching to Liberty is just fine with me, have sailed her 6 times and she is still one of my favorites!

Looks like those who had Havana Cabins are not being properly reimbursed when those cabins are

approx. $1300 more then a regular balcony......am I missing something?

Yeah hope they’re doing something else for Havana people. Partial refund or FCC. $50 wouldn’t cut it if it were me.

Yup I'm a havana.   $250!  NO WAY!   It'd have to be a suite!! The pricing difference is way more than $250.....who should I start contacting?

Price for balcony midship good location $709....Havana Cabana  cheapest I saw was $1329    Hmmmm doing the math.....that's $620!  What are they doing, using the $380 from me to pay for the repair?  I'm 🤬

I’m on the 1/16 in a regular balcony (on Lidi deck).  This will be ok for us assuming we get a comparable cabin.  We love the Liberty.  But for anyone in a Havana cabin, I would take them up on the offer to cancel.  The OBC isn’t comparable to the price differential

paid.

Not to mention….who knows what our itinerary will be?   I don’t think Grand Cayman will be open….so then what??  I really don’t want to go to Nassau or Freeport.

There has to be more for the Havana folks. I'd say 50% refund of cruise fare plus $200 OBC minimum.

I'm sure Carnival will come up with something as it is unrealistic of them to think anyone will be OK with going to a substantially cheaper cabin on an inferior ship and just accept $50 more OBC than everyone else is getting.

Sadly, it seems that is what they think people will accept. For Havana folks it would be a NO WAY as well as insulting. We are a balcony cabin and weighing our options. If we cancel we just get refund and lose the OBC as well as any casino or other offers we had, no FCC like the last folks... I am kinda bitter they are offering so little for a messed up Christmas, but the family is in tears and afraid we will not find another vacation for Christmas. So the choice is, accept an older inferior ship that does not have the activities or dining we wanted r cancel and pay substantially more for a lesser cabin, or cancel cruising for Christmas and find another trip last minute? Long restless night for sure.

I'm on the 1/8 sailing, and yet to get the email I have seen it. We have a spa room, and I'm not to thrilled with the Liberty. I really did not like Valor. Then add the fact that I have overpaid for the cruise at this point. If our friends weren't going we would change to another ship. They do not want to. The only saving grace for me is that it is an ABC cruise. I will think about it the next couple days. We may change to the Pride for the partial Panama Canal, or Mardi Gras.

I do not think the compensation for the ship or room type is comparable.

This is so disappointing after multiple cancellations in the last year and a half. We had a pretty good casino rate in a spa balcony for our New Year’s eve cruise on Horizon, plus $1300 OBC. We don’t really need the extra $200 OBC and really don’t want to go on an older ship.  My husband has convinced me though we should go ahead and go with what they give us. The email states we will be assigned our ship and stateroom no later than December 21. Hoping for the Sunshine over Liberty for dining options. If the itinerary changes to something like Freeport or Nassau I will definitely cancel.

We are on the 1/8 sailing as well. Suppose to be a cove. We will go on Liberty as long as the ports don’t change. Guess we will see what John Heald says in the morning. Lots of upset people on his page and on our roll call.

My roll call has been SO silent!    One thing to remember, is that they said they were putting 2 ships in operation for the one.  Liberty and Sunshine.  Liberty I might be OK with, but Sunshine is SO MUCH smaller!  Who knows what ship I am getting.   I chose Horizon so hopefully he wouldn't get sea sick as much as a smaller ship.  It's his first cruise, not mine.  IF he doesn't like it...looks like I'll be cruising solo from now on.     Booked hotel...no refunds for that if we cancel.  Debating on booking with a different line so I don't eat my hotel $.  I know it's not Carnivals fault, yet, booking a Havana with that previous price I shared....that was just for 1 person...I'm getting screwed out of almost $1K!   For a smaller ship, who knows what cabin, and $250 bucks?     They were in dry dock for updates...or waiting to get more ships sailing?

As for PVP, mine left/retired during COVID.  I LOVED him!  I don't have one currently and I've been asking for one on the site.   I REALLY need someone to share theirs somehow!

What is everyone saying in your roll call?  Anyone saying they are cancelling altogether anyway?    I purchased air through fly2fun, but upgraded privately with airline.  Won't get that $$ back either I am sure.   How can they go from full refund and another cruise to $250?   I am VERY disappointed with how they are handling this!   If there was more OBC credited, and I'd get a REALLY nice cabin, maybe, but $250 per cabin when it's almost $1k?    UGH!  What to do!!!  Book with another line and rebook my air on my own?   sigh.

May I ask why you said wait to see what Heald would say.   Do you think he has any say in this matter, or ??   I'm trying to think but at the moment can't come up with ANYTHING.

That IS TRUE!   IT is SEVERAL peoples Christmas/Holiday!    Did they take that into account????  BTW...I am thinking NO WAY and trying to figure out if I should book with another line or wait and see if they change the offer.  IF I could just keep my air.   But cancelling...the hotel $$$   How come the didn't offer to refund that for pre-post like they did the other 2 cruises?

With our sailing the Sunshine will be back in service in SC so we didn’t get a 2 ship option.

As for JH, he may see that so many are upset with the offer that something gets changed, but I believe they will cut the losses with cancellations and just offer these sailing at super reduced rates to try and make up for the loss.

I’m on the 12/31 sailing of the Horizon, and I find the OBC/cancellation options pitiful. And I say that as someone who has always found Carnival’s compensation for these types of issues to be pretty generous. There is no comparison between the Horizon and Liberty. I know times are hard with Covid and whatnot but come on!

Liberty is 110,000 gross tons, Sunshine is 103,000. That's almost not even noticeable. Its not like its a Fantasy class, or even a Spirit...

For us we had specifically upgraded to a Cloud 9 Spa balcony for our 12/26 sailing after really enjoying using the thermal suite. I’m ok with a smaller ship, but I’m hoping for Sunshine because it doesn’t look like Cloud 9 Spa is on Liberty according to Carnival’s website. The only other special thing we had for this sailing was a reservation at the steakhouse, which seems to be on both. And we had the RU3 Cheers! included, which I hope they remember to transfer with our booking as well.

I found tons of contact numbers (some direct lines) l and emails during the night.  NO, I couldn't sleep.   I took them as screen shots on my phone but will try to post them when I get to work in about an hour.  I dont get off work until 305.    I know I added up my losses per person and its more than 599 each! But overall, it'll be a 2600 loss.  Now, I have about 10hours8minutes09seconds until I get off work to try to figure out I I cancel before Sunday, or ask for an Extension take care of this mess!

cduffy  at the fun ship and the others who got millions in bonuses last year can do better!
