cattman Posted December 20, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2021 (edited) Just returned from a fantastic Mexican Riviera cruise aboard Koningsdam.. well, it was great until we got to PV. Been to PV many times, this time we just wanted a lounge chair on a beach with free-flowing drinks and food. We had a shore excursion included with our Have It All package, so we booked and were looking forward to Las Caletas, but alas, it was cancelled. We never do Shore Excursions through the ship, but we had that excursion credit so we thought the Beach Break at Miraval resort would do the trick.. what a bummer that turned out to be. First, you arrive at a worn resort in the Marina Vallarta area about 9:45a after a 45 minute drive, only to find nowhere to get anything to drink, as all bars don't open till 11:00. You are given a a watered-down welcome drink and told to be back at the Lobby at 2:00pm sharp to depart for the ship. We were told by our 'host' that the resort had three or four restaurants for our enjoyment, all fantastic..but hey, the only one open during the day is the buffet, and it was only serving breakfast, and a sad one at that. No water, no sodas, nothing till 11. And lunch? Well the buffet and a snack stand are your only options, but the buffet closes at 11:00 and does not reopen for lunch until 1:00pm!! That's right, it doesn't reopen until 1:00, and you have to leave at 2.. so 1 hour to eat, most of it spent in a line as you are 'dining' with all the customers of the resort. That left us with a really lousy pre-cooked hamburger from the snack stand - no tacos, salads, etc., and it was one of the worst hamburgers I have ever eaten. So - at the end of the day, we had maybe two drinks each (beach service sucked) at an uncomfortable, worn beach lounger(with no place to put a drink) and a lousy hamburger, as the buffet was too crowded and rushed. What a waste.. please don't make the same mistake we did. Edited December 20, 2021 by cattman

CruiserBruce Posted December 21, 2021 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2021 To be fair, there are two Marival (not Miraval) all inclusive resorts in Nuevo Vallarta. One is a 5 star place, one is 3 star. You can guess which one you visited. The 5 star is very nice.
