In quarantine on Equinox. Ask me anything. I’m bored.

Couldn't agree more.  I don’t want anyone to contract this, but if this is as bad as it gets then I’m pleased with the vaccine.

Of all of the OP's very positive posts, this one ranks right up there.  I hope I meet you aboard one day so I might buy you an Old Fashioned at WCB.

So this is exactly what I have been saying here since CDC changed the testing rules for cruises in October.  What was the reason to go from 3 day pre-cruise testing to 2 day testing?  It was working very well as it was.  Then people were forced into taking antigen tests instead of the RT-PCR test before checking in on the ship because of the timing change.  RT-PCR would catch asymptomatic people and others just recently infected before going to the port.  Simply saying that 2 day testing was better for no solid reason, it truly backfired when Omicron came along.

TeeRick with another astute observation based on real-case outcomes.

@Parkerson  I know you and your wife are planning to drive home with all the car windows open. I assume that in Florida the weather will be such that you can do that.   But if it's pouring rain in a way that prevents your opening all the windows, here's an article reporting on a study showing the "best" windows to open for airflow in an effort to prevent covid transmission:

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/19/car-windows-to-open-for-air-flow-to-prevent-covid-transmission-study.html

I hope you continue to experience only mild symptoms and recover from them soon, and that your wife continues to test negative.

Thanks again for sharing your experience with us.

Safe travels home.

Thank you for that!  Between masking and airflow, we should be good.

Do you know how if folks are wearing masks while actively working out in the gym?  Hope you feel better soon and they release you from quarantine.

Gym?  There’s a gym on this ship??

If your wife didn't care about getting covid, would you have considered just staying in your room and self isolating?

If we stayed together they still would have moved us to the quarantine deck. But yes, we would have done that as my neighbors did.

Thank you Parkerson. This is the most interesting thread I have read in ages. We are all getting info in "real time".

Whether we choose to cruise now or later, this has provided everyone info on what can happen and how it is handled on X. They seem to be doing a good job compared to what I read on other cruise lines.

Safe and healthy travels home. I think at some point we are all going to get the "Vid" so if I happen to get it I hope I can also enjoy my wine as you are enjoying your scotch.

Cheers to Health

This thread is more addicting than watching Dallas. Yes I’m old! My wife would REALLY enjoy a cruise with me locked in a cabin for the duration. She would probably try to start an ad hoc “ widow/widowers “ group for the rest of the cruise. “Honey I tried to visit you but they wouldn’t let me”. “ Im sorry I got out of control in the casino because I was so depressed about you being locked up” etc. etc. I’m not taking that chance. Very regretfully canceling next weeks Apex cruise

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and thanks for all the great info.  We were supposed to be on the Equinox tomorrow but postponed the cruise until late February - and I'm hoping that's enough time for things to settle down a bit.

Safe travels home!

Wow--this has been an interesting thread! Thx for sharing--REALLY glad u r feeling decent & DW is negative so far. Surprised they allow her out of the room (or did I read that wrong)

We were on the Edge for 2 weeks the last wk of July/1st wk of Aug. The last full day of the 1st wk we watched them come get 2 passengers from the pool deck; those of us who did B2B had to do a COVID test that morning & it was clear that one of them tested positive. The wife was NOT happy.

Glad we cruised when we did--crazy Omicron wasn't around yet. And it was luxurious to go maskless all week.

We have a week on Apex in March. Hoping things settle down b4 then.

But I have older parents battling cancer so everything is tentative. Thank God for Cruising w/ Confidence.

Yeah, with my parents I have been even more careful to wear a mask. Luckily most in our community are still masking even tho our mask mandate expired Dec. 23 (confused with their logic on that one...).

TAKE CARE!

Glad to hear y’all are headed back out on the seas soon. I watched that same couple get escorted out. 😬

I expect school will be a hot mess next week…hoping omicron gets a move on!

As to whether someone who is quarantined is eligible for some sort of compensation, here is pertinent language from the Celebrity Website:

 https://www.celebritycruises.com/content/dam/celebrity/pdf/cel-covid-19-cancellations-and-refunds-policy.pdf

Denial of Embarkation or Reboarding; Quarantine and/or Disembarkation

If you, your family members, traveling companions or other close contacts are denied embarkation or reboarding, or quarantined or disembarked during the voyage, due to a positive COVID-19 test or being suspected of having COVID-19, you and they are entitled to a refund, or an optional FCC, for the cruise fare paid to Celebrity in the event of denial at embarkation, or a pro-rated refund or pro-rated FCC for the unused portion of your cruise fare in all other cases.

If you test positive for COVID-19 during the voyage, Celebrity will:

• cover the cost of necessary COVID-19 related medical treatment onboard the ship;

• coordinate and cover the costs of any required land-based quarantine for you and members of your Traveling Party; and

• coordinate and cover the costs of travel arrangements to get you and members of your Traveling Party back home.

We will also provide the same assistance to identified close contacts if they are required to quarantine onboard or are disembarked or denied re-boarding due to have been in close contact to a guest who tests positive for COVID-19.

Sounds pretty good.....but the subsequent section is interesting:

Obligation to Comply with Celebrity COVID-19 Policies and Procedures

Guests denied embarkation or reboarding, or who are disembarked or quarantined during the voyage, for failure to comply with the Celebrity COVID-19 Policies and Procedures in effect at the time of the cruise, shall not be entitled to a refund or FCC, compensation of any kind, or any of the assistance described in this Policy. Please refer to the Ticket Contract issued for your cruise for complete details.

Could that mean that the cruise line has the authority to impose a quarantine upon those who refuse to adhere to a mandatory masking requirement or some other condition?  Or, could their eligibility for compensation be affected?

Would love to hear about your experience getting home. We're Canadians who are on the Jan 21 equinox sailing and are curious what it'd be like to try and get home after a positive test. Does celebrity help out? What happens next?

Looking for the bright side with a positive test you can travel for the next 180 days without additional testing. Call that future cruise desk. 🙂

I am so thankful that you are up to it to provide us with an “inside” look with real information.  I have to say that compare to what NCL is providing to the couple that had to quarantine, Celebrity is providing the Celebrity treatment even in quarantine.  I hope you feel 100% soon!

The way I understood it is that those who did not comply with their stated policies and procedures would not receive any compensation nor would travel arrangements be paid for and would be charged for any medical care. I am assuming (and you know what’s they say about assuming) that refers to anyone falsifying vaccine records or testing documents, refusing to wear masks (if that is more than a recommendation but  a requirement at he time) or anyone not adhering to quarantine procedure.

One more question, to your knowledge, were any passengers who tested positive before one of the port stops made to disembark at that port and find a way home?

Unless they did not follow the rules Celebrity sets out, Celebrity covers the costs of getting the person / persons home and make the best arrangements possible.  So that will depend on the local authorities and if celebrity is able to secure a private flight to their destination.  If not then it will be arranged upon return to the home port.

@Parkerson with booster and now Covid(+), you are sort of invincible and free now as far as current and past variants are concerned. If it weren't for the degrading level of services in travel-related industries, this would be a good time to travel!  Enchoing others to thank you for this very informative thread. Safe journey home!

HaHa!  I’ll get some mosquito netting…..that should work just as well. 🤗

Yes BBC correspondent Katty Kay laughed when she said they did this and admitted she didn’t know how effective it would be but stated that desperate times required desperate measures! Certainly didn’t mean one should rely on this!

Yeah... we are on the Feb 11th sailing... we have moved this cruise twice already. My plan is to wait until early Feb to see if the peak is over and if the disease continues to be as mild as it has been for vaccinated. We are driving so most of the risk is going to be at hotels/restaurant along the way and in the terminal. OPs thread does make me pause however. We were quarantined once with Noro virus..made me really appreciate a balcony cabin...won't sail without one now.  In addition to being more concerned about being locked up because of a positive test.. than I am getting it... I am wondering if they will move us out of our deck 6 cabin... a look at the ship for our sailing...appears to be very full...which I don't believe ..so I suspect they are doing their own capacity control as well as blocking out cabins for quarantine purposes. So we will see what happens. Remember the old days when the biggest concerns were flight delays and just how early you could get on the ship and then off at the end of the cruise... ah good times.

Just read on X Captain Club Facebook page reports of people who are supposed to be in quarantine actually walking around the ship,,,younger people who are actually bragging about it,,some even bragging they ate in the MDR whilst waiting the result of tests.

Guest Relations say they can’t force them to stay in cabins….people saying they are feeling sorry for crew that are trying to get them to isolate.

What chance do you have with idiots like these around us.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but my cruise is some months away...and will decide then before final payment. If I had one booked in the next few weeks, nothing  would induce me to do anything other than cancel. But that's just me🤔
