Guests on board, booked on B2B, have been told they may not stay on board on the 20th at Southampton and must disembark.

Passengers are being offered £500 off a future cruise.

"in view of the current situation with COVID we are taking ever possible step to keep all our guests and crew as safe as possible to reduce any risk of Covid from one cruise to the next. Therefore we have taken the difficult decision to curtail the next part of your cruise and not allow any guests to remain on board"

It makes me wonder if they are going to cancel the 20 January cruise.I could understand them saying that to guests on spirit of Discovery where there have been covid cases but not sure why it's necessary on spirit of adventure which I presume is covid free unless it's to reduce the number of passengers onboard on the 20 th cruise? Hope it goes ahead for your sake

Anyone know why this is happening and is it on both ships?

It's probably because of the covid cases on the current spirit of Discovery cruise and being done as a precaution to reduce the numbers of passengers onboard and therefore hopefully the risk of covid on the next cruise

We were very surprised to see this news, as we had already been on two back-to-back cruises in October and December on SOA. In both cases we were not allowed off the ship in between cruises, as is usual, and had to remain in our cabin until testing had proved negative. The only difference on the cruises was that on the first we could only leave the ship on coach trips whilst on the second we could do our own thing. We see that these guests will be credited with £500 for another cruise and refunded their money. This sounds fine but hopefully other considerations will be considered. If one books a new cruise with what is in the current brochure offers it is unlikely that any high percentage reductions will be available and the back-to-back 10% off will not apply. Here is an example. We are booked on ‘In the Footsteps of St James’ (11 nights) as the second cruise in March. This was an early booking (per guest) with 25% reduction (£1369) and Consecutive Cruise Offer of £411. Added together this amounts to £1780 that would be lost in the worst-casescenario when rebooking and in the best-case scenario £411. Latterly compensation of £89 (£500-£411) does not appear to be over generous! Let’s hope that those involved on the SOA get a better deal than this. As a guide as to numbers staying on, on our last back-to-back was 22.

Given Kenmure’s guide to numbers, I’m not sure that around 22 passengers would make much difference to the potential spread of Covid.

As usual, the lack of a clear explanation of the situation is bound to lead to harmful speculation as to the real reason for Saga’s last minute measures.

Haven't they just done the same thing with SoD too?   People allegedly being offered the next cruise, although that's only hearsay based on social media.

They have done the same on spirit of Discovery which in some ways is understandable due to the covid cases onboard the current cruise.I can't see any reason for doing similar on spirit of adventure when the cruise has been covid free unless they want to reduce the number of passengers onboard.I do think Saga should tell people the reason for doing this as the people staying onboard s of a surely pose no covid risk to others

We are disembarking SofA this morning.  We were only booked on the 15 night Classic Canaries cruise, which, by the way, has been COVID free.

Passengers booked on back to backs were invited to aCaptains cocktail party on Tuesday night  to thank them for their loyalty.  The following morning, a letter was delivered to their cabins from HQ telling them they must disembark today!  No proper explanation given other than wanting to ensure cruises are COVID free.  Quite a few were on back to backs, as they had transferred from the cancelled South America cruise.  Some very upset people at breakfast yesterday.  Presumably the Captain would not have gone ahead with the cocktail party if he had known about this.  We can only assume the decision has been made to ensure parity of treatment of  guests on both ships.
