Celebrity Excursions in Tortola

Hello experienced Celebrity cruisers. We are set to embark on the Edge mid-February and one of the ports we're very hopeful that we'll stop at is Tortola. Given the current climate, we think our best bet for this new-to-us port is to do a ship sponsored excursion.  Since it's new, we've always heard people say you have to see the baths in Virgin Gorda...so that's the plan! However, there's 2 different Celebrity excursions that go there. One talks about a boat and then a bus and some swimming. The second says a boat ride, and then snorkeling and swimming. Is one better than the other?  Are there chairs or the like to sit on the beach?  Do you think we're picking the right thing for our first stop? We don't know when we'll be here again so we want to make the best choice! Thank you

I would do the boat, snorkeling and swimming. The baths are worth seeing!

Been to Tortola 3 times and on two occasions the excursions to Virgin Gorda were cancelled due to rough seas.  So have a back-up plan just in case.  Bring along some comfortable walking shoes.

Our last time in Tortola with Celebrity we took the "Tour to Virgin Gorda Baths" excursion. Our family had already been to the Baths. I fell in love with Devils Bay and spent the time swimming in the warm crytal clear water while others in our tour went to scale the rocks and climb the ropes etc. No loungers on the beach, sit on our towel or a boulder. IF you can handle the strenuous hike to get there, it was 4 hours well spent.

The baths are a secluded beach with large rocks. There are no chairs on the beach and you won’t spend a huge amount of time there. There are 2 types of excursions- you can take a snorkeling boat that anchors off shore and swim into the baths beach. I’m told the swim is tough because of distance and surf - not sure if you get to walk through baths.

The second excursion is a ferry, then bus from ferry to baths. Once there it is a hike to the baths then you clamber over the rocks and squeeze between them. Not overly strenuous, but you need shoes that have good grip and can get wet, and don’t burden yourself with stuff, there are ladders to climb and chains to hold. Very different sort of excursion
