3-27-22 Divina Cruise Canceled

I was just reading in the NCL forum that a Panama cruise from LA

to Miami was denied entry in almost all ports (Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, etc).  It is ending up almost all sea days for them.  MSC is probably trying to avoid a similar fate.

Our 12 night Divina repositioning cruise , Miami to Port Canaveral, had been canceled. Not exactly sure why, needless to say we are not happy.

Greetings

If they can't stop at one of the A,B,C islands they cannot cruise from Miami to Canaveral.  It would violate the PVSA.  Not sure of the original itinerary but this may be the problem.

Why wouldn't the PVSA be covered and the repositioning cruise made legit with a quick stop at OC? After all, that island is in the Bahamas.

A tricky business, those federal regulations.

I guess if a cruise company wanted to have a reliable way out, they'd dredge up a private island sufficiently far away for the statute. Not enough repositioning activity to make it worth all the trouble.

Before COVID, it would have been laughable to consider Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao could ever be simultaneously verboten.

Ah ha, this explains why we had such a great itinerary on our repositioning cruise in November.

Meraviglia - Miami to Port Canaveral 8 nights.

We had 2 days OC , sea days then full days at Bonaire and  Curaçao .

Went on dive excursion on Bonaire and locals had never seen  MSC ship before.

Lots of questions about ship and cruise line.

Would love to go back to Bonaire again.

Interesting how in March the Divina is sailing our same itinerary, from Miami, with the exception of Roatan.

Also there is no Divina repositioning  cruise from Miami to Port Canaveral. The plot thickens.

I've been wondering if they're going to keep Divina in Miami and keep Meraviglia in Port Canaveral.

I wonder if the PVSA and/or Jones Act applies if they reposition a cruise liner from Miami to Port Canaveral or FLL (or vice versa) with NO passengers aboard?  If not, there may be no need to go to a foreign port, distant or otherwise.  Those ports are so close that it could be done quickly and only delay the onward boarding of the follow on cruise with passengers by a few hours...

It is the PVSA that regulates passengers.  The Jones Act regulates chattle (ie cargo).  If the ship is just moving to another port and not transporting passengers or cargo from one US port to another US port then they are fine.
