I'm curious about this too. Or do the companies offer shipping of the pineapple back to the mainland? I'd love to have some fresh pineapple when I get home (and am already planning to gorge myself on it in HI)

There are companies that will ship the pineapple for you, if you are flying home from Hawaii you will also be able to buy pineapple in the terminal and carry it onboard the plane with you.

As Bocadud stated, there are places right in the airport to purchase pineapple to carry on the plane. Most airlines allow you to bring pineapple as part of your carry on (check your airline). I purchase Maui Gold pineapple from Costco because it is significantly less expensive than the airport. IMO, Maui gold is the pineapple you want 🙂

If you are in Hawaii in the summer try to get a white pineapple - they are spectacular! You might find them in a farmers market. You can take pineapples to the mainland, just declare it at the airport for inspection for checked or carry luggage. We live on the big island and just took back pineapples from our yard for family in California. Have fun!
