Hotel in Melbourne

Recommended Posts

Starting to look at some planning for our cruise.  Can anyone recommend a prenite hotel In Melbourne or at least the area to stay in or stay away from

Also, what is the best way to get from the airport to a hotel.  We are sailing Grand Princess March 21, 2023

Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

What is your budget?

The Westin, which is right in the heart of the city, is lovely but expensive.

At the other end of the scale try the Mercure Welcome which is also in the heart of the city.

If you want an apartment then Oaks Melbourne on Lonsdale is very nice.

Taxi or Uber is best from the airport as they will take you directly to your hotel other options are cheaper but involve too much messing around for us.

We're booked on that cruise too.

The last pre-cruise hotel there for me was Batman's Hill on Collins. Not a fantastic hotel, but clean, cheap & convenient. It is across the road from Southern Cross station, and right on the route for a tram to Port Melbourne the next morning. Across the road was a mini supermarket (Woolies Metro), a couple of eateries, and a 7/11 was close for getting MYKI tram tickets.

There are several other hotels close to Southern Cross station, including the Savoy & Holiday Inn express. I mention this area, as this is where the Skybus from the airport terminates. The road between the airport & city struggles to cope with traffic, and is a distance away. Skybus is the cheapest option between the two, and you can pre-buy your tickets.

If you have a lot of luggage though, the Skybus & tram might not be the best options for you. At the port, the tram terminates a few hundred metres from the pier, while a cab/uber will take you right onto the pier.

Do you have a preferred choice of hotel brand?
