OBC cancelation

Recommended Posts

Hi there everyone,

just trying to get clarity on an offer given from Carnival that has now been pulled, the background is as follows. We made a deposit on a cruise to Iceland last year, unfortunately it was canceled. Carnival offered us a $600 OBC for a future crews if we left the deposit in place, which we did.

We booked a cruise late last year out of NY, and expected the $600 OBC to be available to us. To my surprise, when I checked in with customer service today they told me that the credit was no longer available as I didn’t reply to an email that they sent out in early April this year. No record in my files. They did however give me my deposit back $200 in OBC.

Just curious if anyone else has come across this.

cheers.

So the letter you posted was from the initial cancellation.

  • Did you click the link and make your selection using the online tool?
  • Did you book your new cruise prior to 9/30/2021?
  • Is your new cruise sailing before 4/30/2023?

If you can answer yes to all of those, I would keep calling back until I received satisfaction.

It’s a difference of $400, it’s something we can afford to deal with, especially since we’re at the age where we’re spending our kids money! 🤣

Its more about the process, phoned the service desk, got disconnected twice, the nice part was not having to be on hold for more than a minute on each attempt.

Disappointing that you couldn’t talk with a supervisor..

Will still go on this cruise, but will probably switch back to Celebrity after this.

Preposterous! Switch back to Celebrity? Impossible, I was told that Celebrities and Princesses would never, ever, ever sail on a Walmart ship, neigh, a Carnival ship. That's what you get for trying cruise with us low-lives. 😁

J/K, real talk, sorry this happened to you, sounds unfair and I would be peeved too. Hope you have a great cruise in spite of this setback.

Lol,on a side note, We did our first Carnival cruise early 2020, Panorama, Aft Havana Cabin balcony. Loved the ship, staff were excellent, food in MDR pretty good. Got to stay on board an extra night as they quarantined the whole ship.Last cruise before the great lockdown.

I was on late January 2020 as well, pretty sure I got covid on that trip before it was even being talked about. I had a fantastic cruise but started getting sick on the way home and the next day thought I was going to die as I could barely breathe. Couldn't move or get out of bed for a few days and then got better rapidly. It was crazy. We had some foreign nationals on board too I found out. Wife had a cough for about 8 weeks that Dr's were stumped over, tossed a bunch of drugs that didn't work.  Once all the drama/news broke, my wife and I both looked at each other with big eyes and had an ah-hah moment. We finally got back on her a few weeks ago after having our other cruise cancelled. She's a great ship and we got two more planned next year, one on the anniversary of the first trip in Jan 2020. Hopefully, it ends much better though lol.

We were going to be on her, back on March of this year, but canceled last year as it was too complicated for Canadians to travel, and moved the booking to the NY August cruise. The cruise is a casino offer and for the amount we’re paying even the $400 difference can’t turn it down.

Seems you may have lost the $600 OBC when you cancelled the March cruise?

Possibly, definitely something funky occurred. When we canceled the March cruise,on the same phone call we booked the other cruise,so???

You'd think it would carry over but, they treat it as a cancellation and the rebooking is under the new, current terms. Another thing that happened with others is they had $600 OBC, rebooked a shorter cruise and were again cancelled by Carnival. They only got $300 OBC even though they rebooked another long cruise.

When Covid cancelled our 9/20 cruise, we, too, opted for the $600 OBC.  We then booked another cruise for 10/22.  The $600 OBC did carry over.  A few month later Princess cancelled our 11/21 cruise but transferred us to the same cruise in 2022.   This overlapped the Carnival cruise so had to change.  Booked another cruise for 6/23 and our TA was able to get the $600 applied to that as well but said it was the last time we could get the $600 if we had to cancel.  Didn't cancel and still have the $600 OBC.

What I find fascinating is that for $400 in OBC, Carnival has potentially lost a customer who is just coming into the retirement world. We have sailed numerous times on Celebrity ships, and yes they are more expensive, but the quality of experience is much higher in my opinion. That said we thoroughly enjoyed our only Carnival experience on the Panorama, We booked a Havana aft balcony, the Staff, and service were great.

Again it is what it is, and I’m sure we’ll enjoy the cruise in August.

safe travel all.

In the last line of the fine print at the bottom of the cancellation email, you can find this:

"After you have booked your new cruise, please use this link(available until ~ 28 Mar '22) to provide us with the booking information so we can process your FCC."

I did our rebookings through different channels but then always used the link in the email. One or two weeks went by and we got the confirmation that our FCC had been applied including the correct amount of OBC.
