I guess time will tell

Maybe they have some switch to shut the a/c off  when the door is opened  ???

That would make sense, but it almost seems too simple!

If that would work, why haven't the systems been set up like that a long time ago?

That's probably a naive question, but still...

Where are our resident experts? 🙂

Thanks in advance.

Actually, there is more involved than simply the A/C.  The cabins and halls are set to have a pressure barrier that keeps the hall air from leaking into the room.  When a window or door is opened, that barrier is removed.  There were lots of discussions about this on CC during the height of the pandemic.

Yes, fresh air has become much more of an issue, of course.

Same question:  How can the "French balcony" (or infinite veranda/etc.) be used if the door/window remains open?

If that is possible, why can't others keep their doors to the balcony open?

Good question, but I suspect, without any data or facts 🥸, that the French Balconies are not meant to be kept open for ant extended period of time.

There is a similar issue with the Nordic Balconies on Viking's Expedition ships.

French balcony is a step up from ov.  Nice to get fresh air. It’s not as nice as a true balcony.  When Vista opened booking, we thought about booking a French balcony.  In December we sailed on Marina.  We used our veranda everyday.  Especially nice to have a private outdoor space to avoid Covid exposure.  We booked Vista with a real veranda.
