@exlondoner

Hope all goes well with your tests today and embarkation goes smoothly tomorrow. We also have fairly elderly family sailing on this cruise and so hope that everyone acts responsibly and mindful of other passengers as well as themselves.

Will you be sailing straight into a heatwave? ☀️☀️☀️☀️

I started packing half an hour ago when we got back from passing our Covid tests.

We are having a heatwave here. It will probably be cooler on board ship, at any rate until we get to Cadiz.

Think you're in Villefranche-sur-Mer on 21st.

Currently forecast to be one of our hottest days with strong sun and 26C from early morning, 34C feeling nearer 40C in afternoon. Probably best not to try and do too much if outdoors.

If you're on port side of ship about 30 mins before dropping anchor you could give us a wave. 👋

We are on the port side, but I'm not sure what time we're due. I wasn't intending to do much more than have a gentle stroll around a few picturesque streets. If it is really hot, the stroll might not get further than the balcony.

Have had a mesage today from Cunard via our agents, that the itinerary has been changed. The Cunard message actually states that they informed passengers yesterday (I recieved nothing) and that unfortunately the website has reverted to the original itinerary due to a technical error. The agent couldnt find anything out so I'm non the wiser. Wonder if it's anything to do with our Livorno excursion being cancelled. Anyone heard anything?

I have moved all your good wishes posts to @exlondoner here.

Yes, I remember: they wouldn't give you time off work, the ratbags.

We are spending two days in Civitavecchia instead.  As Lissie pointed out, this would give the possibility of a train trip to Florence or even an overnight stay. There is a short thread about it somewhere.

First discussed here

I hope to get a photo of Queen Mary 2 for the sunrise thread as she approaches Villefrance-sur-Mer on Thursday 21st July. Not sure how good it will be as she'll be about 8 miles from our window. There's not much point in going to the seafront as that would only cut the distance to 7.25 miles and I'd lose 15 metres or more elevation.

I think we'll catch a train to Villefrance-sur-Mer later in the morning and get some closer photos and selfies with her, then go on to Monaco for a cheap al fresco lunch.

@D&N, I am not sure I will be able to get a good view of QM2 from a webcam at Villefranche-sur-Mer. I have found a few candidates but I fear that if they manage to show QM2 at all, they will only offer wide distant views of QM2 at anchor. I'd love it if you could get a good photo of QM2 at Villefranche-sur-Mer and post it on our ongoing thread where we've been following QM2's various locations since the pause in operations:  QM2 location (Merged threads)

So envious. ☺️

Villefranche is such a lovely picturesque spot, we had a great day on our last visit (sometime back) and like yourselves caught the train to Monaco after enjoying a good meander along the front.

As a memento we bought a couple of mounted coloured prints done by a local artist who was selling her work from a stall just uphill from the shuttle drop off. One was a lovely overhead view of the village and coast road/promenade.

@bluemarble Assuming nothing stops us going I will do. It's only a bit over a half hour on train for us.

There seems to be a webcam at https://www.vision-environnement.com/livecams/webcam.php?webcam=villefranche-sur-mer that you have probably found already. It scrolls through various shots, but the last few days when I've looked there have been no ships anchored in the "Rade".

It takes a shot at the marina gate where it is located as well and I thought perhaps you could catch us posing there, but we don't plan to spend too long standing there so it's unlikely you'll catch that screen shot! 🤣

@Petulia Sorry, but it's just a local day out for us. Fresh pizza and cake from the counters outside the Casino Supermarket at Port Hercule and a nice bottle of wine from their chiller cabinet. Jump on a bus to the gardens on the castle rock and spend a few quiet hours munching and sipping overlooking the port before catching a train home.

Interesting. I had indeed found that webcam, but as a YouTube live stream called "Webcam port départemental de la Darse" operated by Port Départemental de la Darse and with their logo in the lower right of the image. I have an email in to them requesting permission to use a capture from that YouTube live stream. Now the link you provided appears to be to the same webcam but found on the "vision-environnement" website with their name appearing in the upper right of the image. I now have an email in to them as well.

The YouTube live stream can be rewound up to 12 hours, so if you do make an appearance, we'll be able to go back and look for you on that stream.
