Checking in at port later than chosen selected time slot

Hi,

Can any provide their recent experiences checking in at the port later than their selected time slot?

I asked my travel agent to let Azamara know that we will be checking in at the port late (at the end of an all-day tour) and to expect us even though we do not show up during the time slot we selected (which was the latest slot available when we checked in online).  We will still be at the port well before the ship is scheduled to sail.  I was hoping that this would be a quick and tidy entry in their system for our booking/file.

However, my travel agent said that Azamara told him that I had to call an emergency "Day-of Sailing Help" phone number on the day of embarkation and to let them know only then.  I find that inefficient and a bit bizarre, especially as the number seems to be a RCCL Miami number (Googling the number produces hits with RCCL but not Azamara) and embarkation is in Europe...

Any insight is appreciated.

Unless things have changed, you need to be on board 90 minutes before departure on embarkation day so the ship can be cleared to leave the port and commence the cruise.

During the cruise you are usually required to be back on board 15 minutes before departure.

watch the schedule a bit.  I knew I was going to get to the port early for RCL but could only choose 1:30-2:00 well after I had to be out of the hotel. About a week beforehand the earlier slots opened up and I chose it instead thus leaving a later time open.

it sounds to me like you TA got back an answer that matches hat if I don’t make it to the ship before 90 minutes before sail.  That’s usually assumed to be 2 hours because they need the manifest 90 minutes before sail.   I’d take the number and only call if you can’t make the gangway close time.  With flights cancelled there have to be cases where the arrival is tight.

You also have to arrive within the scheduled window for immigration which closes some time before sailing (in Athens we weren’t sailing until 8 but everyone had to be through immigration by 5) so your response from the specialist team is right. They may not know the immigration position until the day.
I would call again and ask what was the latest scheduled check in time (even though it may be full) to give you an idea if your plans are feasible or not. You won’t want to be having to unscramble your day tour on the day itself!
