Curious about cruise insurance.  Read several articles....looking for a policy that covers CANCEL FOR ANY REASON coverage. We missed out on a cruise a few years back due to illness 2 days before sail, and did not have insurance. OUCH....... What's the best approach, and most cost effective.....Cruise insurance thru Carnival  or thru several other sites (travelinsurance),etc. Thoughts?

Cancel for any reason insurance is very expensive.  If you are worried about illness canceling your trip, get coverage for that.

Most of the major travel insurance sites have the ability to filter for the specific things you want covered.

Carnivals insurance includes cancel for any reason. You can cancel up to scheduled sailing time.

A 3rd party cancel for any reason is an add on cost and for most policies you have to cancel 48 hours before Trip Departure. That’s important because Trip Departure means the time you walk out of your front door.

Seldom is Cancel For Any Reason a viable add on, but, if it’s important to you……

You do not need Cancel for Any Reason if you are canceling for a covered reason such as illness. Additional reasons are defined in the policy. You can get a refund for 100% of your costs. In your case, you would have qualified for a full refund.

CFAR is for any other reason not specified in the policy, but you get only 75% in FCC with cruise-line insurance. It will add significantly to the cost of third-party insurance.  You’ll still be reimbursed at 75% but in cash.

Carnival insurance may be less expensive because it offers low levels of coverage for medical and other travel risks. A medical emergency is likely to be a greater risk of financial burden, but you have to determine what is important to you, what other coverage you have, and what you are willing to spend.

You seem to be unfamiliar with travel insurance. May I suggest you make a list of your questions/concerns and talk to a professional like one of the people at Trip Insurance Store.

By all means, CALL (don't rely only on the online policy summaries) Steve or his associates at www.TripInsuranceStore.com

They are able to answer questions with no pressure, and they can also ask their own questions to try to help you find the coverage that most matches your needs.

There can be quite a few different needs/preferences for travel insurance, so getting help with your particular situation can help find the best coverage for the lowest price, or - VERY important - help you avoid getting a policy that you didn't realize wouldn't cover something you may have needed.

We've used TIS for quite a few policies after learning about them here on CC.  And we've had several claims, all of which were paid without any nonsense.

The best choice of coverages is usually available within 10-20 days of the very first payment.
