Don't be surprised if you get switched to a totally different route. But look at the bright side - you will be going somewhere! It's all 3 ports they're scheduled to visit. We'll see if we even get to visit. Also supposed to go to San Juan, PR and to Amber Cove, Dominican Republic. Might be a wholesale rerouting of our cruise. 😬 Similar story on Princess in November... Princess Cays, San Juan, Amber Cove, and Grand Turk. Hope it doesn't turn into a 7 day Bahamas cruise😬

Concretemanstan Posted September 21, 2022 #29 Share Posted September 21, 2022 I would be extremely surprised if the pier wasn't open again and ready for use by cruise ships within the next few days.

Has anyone heard of the same? We have a cruise to this port in November, this would be a shame. Thoughts and prayers to everyone on the island, wishing them the best. Yep, the dock extensions broke free and washed up on shore. The main concrete pier appears to be in good shape but will have to be evaluated by engineers. Once that is clear, any ship that can tie up directly to the pier will be able to visit. Larger ships, like the Mardi Gras will not be able to visit until those dock extensions are put back into place, or Grand Turk uses small boats to tie the ship up like we've seen in a few ports. Those dock extensions are essentially aluminum bridges from the main pier to the extension pylons needed to tie up the very long ships that extend past the pier. https://www.cruisehive.com/cruise-dock-in-grand-turk-damaged-after-hurricane-fiona/82070

For smaller ships, yes, it should be quick. Grand Turk will have to decide if they want to attempt to tie up the longer ships, like Mardi Gras using small boats until the pier extensions are rebuilt. I have seen that used at one port in the Caribbean in the past, though I have not seen that method used in a long time. Seems they all use the aluminum extension bridges now. The Grumpus Posted September 22, 2022 #33 Share Posted September 22, 2022 The pier itself looks fine to me. It appears the walkways to the dolphin moorings were lost but the main body looks to be in tact.
Rare crewsweeper Posted September 22, 2022 #34 Share Posted September 22, 2022 Appearances in photos and on videos may be deceiving. What damage was done tot he pilings and bulkheads isn't known yet. It'll be a while before GT authorities release any damage reports.
Concretemanstan Posted September 22, 2022 #35 Share Posted September 22, 2022 I would think they are moving very quickly on the structural reports as each ship that doesn't berth is lost revenue

Looks like it’s just the aluminum extension walkways broke off and floated to the beach. Hopefully a quick fix.

Lane Hog Posted September 26, 2022 #43 Share Posted September 26, 2022 The walkways could be back in a matter of weeks. It's just a matter of priorities and the cranes needed to get them in position.
