Lisbon airport: Walking with carry on 1mile to hotel?

Recommended Posts

Male, solo.

Trip is in Dec.

Hotel is Alvalade Palace.

It's 1 mile south of the airport, past Rotunda do Relógio.

I only have a carry on (2 wheels, not a spinner luggage) and a backpack, which i will put on the carry on.

Google maps says it's a 17min walk.

But i read lisbon has lots of hills.

How feasible is it to walk to the hotel?

heck, how safe is it to walk around the airport? (10am)

Forget it. The traffic is madness. go to street view in Google maps and check out the route.

Taxis are not expensive.

traffic?

oh.. you mean lots of cars and cross the street is like playing Frogger?

street view shows cobblestone sidewalks.

yuck for dragging luggage for a mile.

instead of taxi, how about train (red line)?

Sorry.  No idea about trains.

Tons of transportation in Lisbon, including Uber, plus inexpensive taxis (slight surcharge for luggage, and for night if it's after a certain time, but still inexpensive.  But that last suggestion, city bus, sounds good to me, too, assuming you have some euro coins if they're needed.

  • 1 month later...

I don't know if you're still considering it, but I would just walk (I did it myself earlier this year). I got an Uber from the airport once, and the pick-up spot was at a remote parking lot that was almost at the Rotunda do Relógio. Which is halfway to your hotel already.

The Rotunda do Relógio is busy and certainly not designed for pedestrian traffic. I wouldn't walk there with elderly parents and a school group, but the average budget traveler will be fine.

The road to your hotel is not hilly at all.

Thx.

Yes, I still plan on walking it.

I get there in the morning slightly after morning rush.

Unless it's raining...

You're making the assumption that taxis won't rip you off.

I have taken many taxis in Lisbon.  I have never been ripped off.  I always agree on a price before starting the ride.  I am truly not that paranoid.

Made it to my hotel.

No problems with the rotunda. Used the crosswalks.

The mosaic tile sideways were a pain. It was hard to push my spinner luggage.

It was easier dragging my luggage.

Also, glad it was downhill.

I would not walk back to the airport if I was doing a round trip flight.

Dragging my luggage with backpack on top for a mile was tiring on my arm.

I can only imagine going up hill.

I would take the bus (3 or 4 stops) instead
