Rental car from Port of Miami or Airport

We want to rent car after returning from cruise in Port of Miami.

What is best option : is there a rental place close to the Port or better to get a car at Miami International Airport ?

 

Are there car rental shuttles to pick you up ?  Is it better/faster to take taxi or book ships shuttle to airport ?.   Are there usually long waits for cabs ?  We would arrive on a Saturday.

There are some downtown...check when you make your reservation to re-confirm they are open. There are none at the port.

There are no rental facilities directly at the Port Of Miami. If you rent a vehicle from either Avis, Hertz or Budget they have downtown Miami locations that are very close to the port. I'm unsure if they currently provide free shuttle service to their locations. The Miami International Airport Rental Car Center is located directly across from Miami International Airport. Every major rental car company has an office there. Prior to the pandemic they provided free shuttle service from the Port Of Miami to there facility. Since the beginning of the pandemic crisis all free shuttle service was discontinued. I'm unsure when and if free shuttle services return. There are always plenty of cabs available at the Port Of Miami at the conclusion of your cruise.
