Harrisonkid Posted October 31, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2022 If we want to keep our phone on ...I realize we have to move it into Airplane Mode...but what else needs to be turned off so we don't get a crazy Verizon bill?

Rare NutsAboutGolf Posted October 31, 2022 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2022 Airplane mode is generally all you have to do for most phones including iPhones. If you have wifi on the ship, you'll want to check that the Wi-Fi calling setting enabled

Friend we were with tried to enable it using the WiFi calling once onboard but got prompt to call Verizon. Had to wait until they were back on land to get it enabled. CNSfromHI Posted November 2, 2022 #6 Share Posted November 2, 2022 I just learned the hard way after our September cruise that turning off cellular (iPhone) was not enough. Shift your phone into Airplane Mode. cjr
Rare NutsAboutGolf Posted November 2, 2022 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2022 If an iPhone, once onboard, two settings greatly improve the odds of staying on wifi when moving about the ship: 1) Settings, General, Wifi, scroll down, ensure/update the "Auto-Join Hotspot" to "automatic" 2) Settings, General, Wifi, touch the ships wifi network blue i in a circle, turn on "Auto-Join"
