TwinMamainMN Posted November 28, 2022 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2022 We are a family of 5. A typical 2-bed hotel room doesn't give us all enough space to sleep. Kids are 14, 14, and 11. We rented a whole house with a private pool for about $240 per night. Since we are flying in a few days pre-cruise and renting a vehicle it makes more sense. If it was just hubby and me, we'd book a hotel but for a larger family, or those with teens, booking a condo or whole house could be a better deal for both lower price and more space. Just a thought.

Many condo associations react negatively to short term rentals. It is very common for condo associations to have restrictions on whether 1) units can be rented immediately upon purchase or after a specific period of time, and if so 2) for what minimum time period, and 3) how many times a year. New owners agree to all these restrictions before assuming ownership of the property. Unknowing short term renters can find themselves denied entry or instructed to leave after unpacking. Our building has a very common restriction: only one rental per calendar year and it must be for at least 3 months long. Uncommonly, we have no waiting period for putting a newly purchased unit up for rent. That may change after tonight: we have an ownership vote to add the very common 1 year wait for rental and another to limit the number of rentals in the building according to insurance guidelines (it is a 46 unit building and rentals will be limited to 20% or 9 units). While it sounds like @TwinMamainMN is renting a house not a condo, make sure you still check references and I would ask specifically if there are any Homeowner Association rules restricting rentals. You might also want to ask here for comments on the neighborhood.
