On my recent sailing aboard the Beyond, I wanted to test the output of the USB charging outlets in our stateroom, so I brought my Klein USB tester with me and here is what I found:

Charging Box:

Bedside USB Outlets:

As one can see, the amperage output of the bedside USBs are twice that of the charging box.

I know....pretty exciting LOL 😂

All the cruise ships that I have been on with USB outlets have USB-A connecters. All my current devices have USB-C connectors on their charge cables. What type on the brand new Beyond?

I would rather use the regular outlets and plug my fast USB-C chargers into those than use USB-A outlets.

You are a true geek....

I actually unplugged all of my fast chargers before taking the pictures. I didn't want to taint my experiment 🤣

Absolutely! No way on earth I'm waiting on my devices to charge from a USB-A outlet!

My old eyes are having a hard time reading your meter! When I enlarge it to read, it gets blurry.

What were the readings?

OUR old eyes, my friend.

At the charging box, it's ~1A/5V and at the bedside it's ~2A/5V

That's what people don't get when they want to use the USB outlets, or bring on a powerstrip with a 1A USB outlet, etc. Hotels, and now cruise ships, invested in USB charging so long ago that the outlets are all but obsolete. And USB A/C/PD bricks are SOOOO inexpensive today!
