wants2fly Posted December 6, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2022 Looking at Getaway’s next week’s schedule and it appears that ship will reposition to NYC without any passengers from Port Canaveral. Am I looking it wrong? There will be a 12/08 to 12/11 cruise which ends at Port Canaveral then12/13/22 5 days to Bermuda from NYC. Just wondering why. TIA. It would be a violation of the Passenger Vessel Services Act to carry passengers on this itinerary. In order to transport passengers from one US port to a different US port on a foreign flagged ship there must be a port call at what is known as a distant foreign port. The nearest distant foreign ports to the East Coast of the US are the ABC islands, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, and obviously it would take many days for the ship to go to the ABCs from Port Canaveral and then on to NY City. 1
Rare shof515 Posted December 6, 2022 #3 Share Posted December 6, 2022 This is normal and happens all of the time. This is the quickest way to get ship between NY and FL
Greygooser Posted December 6, 2022 #4 Share Posted December 6, 2022 I am on the Getaway right now. Bartender told me about this. Even though they have to work during the trip (doing some deep cleaning that there isn’t usually time for), it’s a lot more relaxed and he considers it time off.
wants2fly Posted December 6, 2022 Author #5 Share Posted December 6, 2022 I guess there will be less chaos at the Manhattan cruise terminal that day and passengers can board sooner. Thank you all for the info.
Lakesregion Posted December 6, 2022 #6 Share Posted December 6, 2022 Back in the day when NCL was more of a cruise line than a ferry service they offered a fabulous repositioning cruise from Charleston to Boston. 14 days and both sections of the Caribbean. .
Rare graphicguy Posted December 6, 2022 #7 Share Posted December 6, 2022 They do empty repos often. Ask the crew about it. While they don’t have to take on their normal jobs, they spend that time training, cleaning, and general “catching up”. All cruise lines have these periods.
