November 2023 - Tokyo to Bangkok on Explorer

Hi, Mark and I are looking forward to our cruise to Asia.  Asia has always been on our bucket list and we made plans to travel there and visit several cities by driving, but the Covid shut down cancelled our plans.  Cruising to Asia will be a whole new experience for us and we're very excited about it.  Has anyone ever been to the cities we're visiting on this cruise?  If so, can you share some highlights?
Thanks!

Also worth looking for the relevant roll-call or starting one if no one has done so already:

We love Asia and are keeping our fingers crossed that our scheduled cruise in Feb 2023 goes ahead without any further itinerary changes 🤞

It is certainly worth staying a few days in Bangkok after the cruise if you have the time. There are some excellent hotels on the river and it is easy to get around Bangkok on your own.

It may be helpful to list the cities as itineraries seem to be in flux.

The cruise starts in Tokyo with stops in Shimizu, Kyoto, Kochi, Okinawa, Taipei, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City and ending in Bangkok

Hi Susan,

We went on a Regent Japan cruise that stopped at the first few ports you mention.  Kyoto is definitely the highlight.  Here is a link where I reviewed our trip excursions.  I've looked into Vietnam/Thailand cruises and some feed back was the ports a quite a distance from sites, not sure if that's true in your case but maybe something to look into.  Japan is very cool enjoy your trip.

We are on that cruise, as well!  Hoping the world situation stays calm and it's a go!!  As time gets closer, might be interested in some private tours, as well.  Stay in touch!

One suggestion for a site that you won't see mentioned very much.  If you stay in Bangkok after the cruise, look for a way to go to the Prasart Museum.  This is a little know small private estate with collections of Asian art that is remarkable.  It can be visited by reservation only and must be booked some time in advance as they only allow a small number of people each day.  This is a great addition to the usual tours of Bangkok's great sites.  We arranged this through a private tour company, not the ship.
