Rare Smokeyham Posted December 20, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2022 For those who were on board a Cunard ship at the very sad time of Her Majesty's death, can you tell us how the announcement was made, if indeed any announcement was made? Also, did they hold any special service or remembrance? Thanks,

ace2542 Posted December 20, 2022 #3 Share Posted December 20, 2022 I was onboard QM2 when it happened. Some passengers where taking about it saying she had died. I went to the reception desk and informed them what had been said. They said they would pass that message upstairs although I suspect upstairs already knew and about 10 or 15 minutes after I went to the reception the announcment was made by Captain Hashemi.

showingdiva Posted December 20, 2022 #5 Share Posted December 20, 2022 I boarded QM2 a few days after. Captain Hashmi made it very clear that the ship was in mourning, flags were at half mast, a book of condolence was available to sign and there would be a very quiet sail away from both Southampton and Rotterdam.
Camgirl Posted December 22, 2022 #6 Share Posted December 22, 2022 I was onboard QV. We were told by the captain very quickly after the news broke. There was a book if condolence opened, remembrance services held, and more than one silence held. The funeral was also broadcast in various places, plus in staterooms. I felt it was all handled extremely well.
