We will be on the Dawn sailing 1/28/23 with the same itinerary you are scheduled for. How did embarkation go, any fog in Tampa, any missed ports, how was the food, did you do any excursions, was the entertainment good?  Any information you could pass along would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

We got on the ship this morning. Embarkation from curb to bar was 20 minutes 😊 Access to our room by 1pm but of course the luggage isn't there yet but we don't care. Oh, and absolutely no fog. It's beautiful.

That's all good to hear.  Anything else you can post during the cruise would be sincerely appreciated.  Hope you have an absolutely wonderful time.

You’re scheduled for Taino Bay on January 31, as are we on the Gem that day. Hope we both make it! 😊

Why? Are there issues happening at that port where we might not be able to go ashore? We're booked on an NCL Let's Take a Selfie excursion that day.

Oh my, you've apparently missed the many discussions in this forum about NCL frequently skipping Taino Bay ever since the Escape ran aground there last March.  (Just do a search on here for Taino Bay and for Amber Cover.)   Except for one reported docking of the Encore soon after the Escape incident, none of the big ships has docked there.   (They either go to Amber Cove if there's room, or have a sea day or go to Nassau or somewhere else.)

There haven't been too many scheduled port calls of the smaller ships (Dawn et al., Jewel-class) at Taino Bay,  but some have docked.   I'm being optimistic and thinking both the Dawn and Gem will make it this month.  🙂

Thanks for the update. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Right now it looks like the Dawn is scheduled (according to Cruisemapper) to port at Amber Cove. FWIW here’s a link to keep track of where the Dawn is at any particular moment.

Ken, cruisemapper.com unfortunately is not an accurate site for determining where in Puerto Plata a ship might dock, because it shows all ships at Amber Cove and simply ignores the second docking location, Taino Bay.  The more accurate sites are the Amber Cove and Taino Bay sites themselves:

https://www.porttainobay.com/es/arrivals

https://ambercove.com/Port-Schedule.aspx

As you can see, for January 31, the Dawn and Gem are shown as docking in Taino Bay, not Amber Cove.

Sounds good. Whatever dock we stop at, either Amber Cove or Taino Bay, is fine with us. 😁

What about muster? Were you back to attending regular drills (as is happening on Escape now) or did you just have your card scanned upon boarding?

Also, if you went to the Meet & Greet they usually have cards that have who the staff members are. Maybe you can let us know. If you did not attend one maybe you know who is Cruise Director, General Manager & Concierge. Also, which terminal in Tampa did you board? Thank you...
