Curious why many more Seward to Van cruises than Van to Seward

Still looking at the possibility of cruising Alaska with Viking. Space is filling up, but I’ve noticed most ‘sold out’ cruises are the Vancouver to Seward ones.  Curious why that is.  
When would an August Alaska cruise be paid in full?  What are the chances of cancellations between now and summer?

Maybe more people want to stay and do an extension or days on their own where they can go to Denali.  Maybe want to get to the cold gradually. Not sure.

We have booked Seward to Vancouver mainly to get the worst travel day over when we are excited to go on the trip.  Vancouver to home is easy.

We book Seward to Vancouver so we can spend some time pre cruise in Seward. Lots to do and really beautiful.

And you pass US customs at Vancouver airport.

For US passengers, the final payment date is usually no closer than 6 months precruise. That is when Viking sometimes throws promos to finish filling the ship.

We have been waitlisted numerous times on quite a few lines.  Three times with Viking.  So far to date are have gotten all of them.  Seems there is always a cabin or two near sailing.🍹
