Rare Jeter02 Posted February 26, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2023 Does anyone know the reason why the port of call Lofoten, was canceled on all the midnight summer cruise sailings for the summer? Both the sky and Island Princess had sailings to that port of call.
Rare Coral Posted February 26, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2023 Did they substitute another port for it?

capriccio Posted February 26, 2023 #6 Share Posted February 26, 2023 In 2019 we had a very late arrival because the Norwegians first said a pilot was not necessary for the transit between Tromso and Gravdal (Lofoten Islands). Our captain said he had sailed it without a pilot many times before. Then, with very little notice they said we needed a pilot but one wouldn't be available until a much later departure time from Tromso than planned. We were due to arrive at Gravdal at 8 am and instead arrived after 12:30 pm. Since it is a tender port all the passengers had not disembarked until around 2 pm totally messing up Princess and private excursions. IIRC this happened on more than one cruise that summer. Maybe the Norwegians have decided it will be a permanent requirement but the number of pilots is limited?

It's been on my bucket list to visit. Was hoping it would remain on the summer of midnight cruise that I'm booked on. Personally would love to visit Lofoten when it's a winter wonderland with the magical views of the aurora
